Bought this off ebay "spares or repairs" 60 quid

Quick bit of re-connecting the speaker cables with shrink connectors, connected up to my loom. Made some slight alterations to Kenwood head wiring, changed settings to send sound to sub, and tested. Awesome bit of AC/DC blasting out

Already fitted the Audiophile front speakers I got from ebay for a tenner, so pretty happy

I'm not a hi-fi or ICE expert Paul, and don't really know what I'm doing here, but it sounds great to me, and I would have been happy if I'd paid more.

Certainly a much fuller sound

Managed to get two of these fairly cheap, ready for my next project when i have the space to start it.

Tried this one in the ST to see what it's like and it's really comfy, almost tempted to get some for it I particularly like the longer base they have as it gives more support under the knees, this photo shows the extra length a little better.....

An old rocker at heart then? hope to be down your way in a couple of weeks time, if I hear ac/dc I will know its you.

I wish I had more space, there is never enough!!

ref. a question you asked about the bottom ball joint ( I think ) yes they are all the same but if you are thinking of putting RS hubs on a st170 I believe you will have problems with the drive shafts

cheers

So is that why you fitted the RS drive shafts to your project then mate? that's what made me think it was worth a shot, seeing what you've done with that.

Give me a shout when you're down this way maybe we could meet up and compare cars, get that Paulinho out too

Mind you, I'll be away myself quite a bit in the next few weeks

Sorry just read your question again, the strut on the RS is bigger in diameter than all the other focus's. The genuine ones are reasonably priced used but you will not be able to use those nice new Bilstein's from your st sorry

Yes you need to fit the RS drive shafts and they do not fit in the st170's gear box as far as I am aware.
will probably be in the wife's car as its cheaper on fuel but will get in touch

Cool
No RS parts except wheels maybe are going on the ST170 the 5 speed conversion was done as it was cheaper than replacing the dual mass and clutch and I wanted to see what it was like to drive.
The Focus with the RS bits started out as a 2.0
Hubs and struts came from st-breaker who have a pair of hubs listed now for Ł250 the front brake callipers were from eBay and there are at least 2 pairs available as I write this for Ł260 or Ł300 mine came from an Alfa Romeo which made them a bit cheaper you will need new discs and pads which are widely available. Struts and drive shafts do come up for sale if st-breaker does not have them just remember to get the bearing support, be prepared that your wheels may not clear the callipers obviously RS wheels do and seem to come up regularly on eBay not cheap though

Thanks Mate. Drive shafts isn't a real problem for me as my project will be RWD (I must be mad ). but I do plan to utilise the existing front suspension. I may have to use the hub end of the shafts to secure the hubs to the knuckles, as i think they are only pressed in? My RWD Transit pretty much uses FWD hubs with dummy shafts in, so that's what I'm hoping to do.
Just bought the hubs from ST-breakers actually, and have some Fiat coupe calipers which I think are the same as the Alfa ones. My plan is to buys some new RS struts or coilovers to sort it.

To start with, I'll be doing the work with the standard ST suspension to ee how it goes, but am getting the bits together now, as I don't see the prices going down at all If it doesn't work out as planned, I can always sell them on later.....

You probably think i'm a nutter

Not at all!! considering my collection of cars, which if your ever passing I would be happy to show you round, your plan is quite sane. Have some time off work soon so hope to restart an Escort project which has a rwd zetec if so will start a thread.
I also made a conscious decision to buy RS parts so that they would be easier to sell on.

Hmmm, strange

Anyway, question for you guy, do standard Mk1 Focus drive shafts fit into MK1 RS hubs? I need some so I can use the ends to secure my RS hubs on my RWD project, and R shafts are few and far between......

A longer answer, found my spare RS hub and a scrap drive shaft today and tried to put them together. The diameter of the shaft is smaller than the RS one which means that the splines do not locate in the hub, not sure if this would be a problem for your intended use.

Cheers Wayne Yes, defo need it to fit as I'll be using just the splined end. As it's a RWD project, I need that bit to hold the hub on if you see what i mean.

My Transit works in the same way, it's a RWD, but all Ford have done is used spline ends to hold it all together at the front, and the rest of the front end, hubs and struts and stuff, are the same as the FWD version.

I've managed to source one RS shaft now for the offside, just need a

NS one now and I'm sorted

These standard subs are decent. It sounded well in my old ST170. I had always wondered what it would sound like with a decent sub fitted instead of the Ford one.

Not sue if I ever answered your question Paul, but the sub sounds good in the ST, really pleased with it

I had a couple of issues with humming and buzzing, but it was down to my dodgy wiring into the head unit. I fixed that an it's been fne ever since. When you crank it up it really does add plenty of bass

I sure did...but I need to remember how I solved it. I do recall having to cut some tabs...but I'll see if I can find the module reference and leave it here.

EDIT: just found the picture of the module...look for the reference 2M5T14B056BD . When you get it, and compare to your module, you'll see where you have to cut the tabs.
