1985 Ford EXP 1.93 Turbocoupe...Finally with T3!
Hello everyone. Thought I would share my update. Years ago I built a 1.9 CVH for my 85 Ford EXP and since then it's been a blast to drive. I had a problem with the old IHI turbo when it started leaking from the hot side. After inspecting I found that the cartridge was cracked. Since I couldn't find a new one I drove the car NA for quite some time till I was ready to put in the T3.
Alas the time has come. Here is the update.
With the IHI Turbo I did the quarter mile in 15.14 seconds at 96 mph. 60 foot was around 3 seconds. Don't remember if it was 2.5 or 3.5 seconds. I had stock tires, 2 inch exhaust, and a stock 1985 Merkur XR4Ti tune (ECU + 35 lb brown top injectors).
I had the intention of installing my UK shipped Escort RS manifold so that I can run my 60 trim T3 but I kept procrastinating due to getting married. I am also a father now and that little guy certainly keeps me busy!
However, I have some time now and this Thursday I plan to put the engine back in.
For now this the latest.

Engine has been balanced and blueprinted by North East Machinery in East Hartford CT.
Block
1987 Escort GT 1.9 HO CVH
Bored - .020" over
Decked - .005"
Crank - underground .010"
Pistons - Custom forged by Arias, free floating with poly locks,
11 cc's was removed from stock piston and sent to Arias to copy as Forge. Compression was 8.1/1 with factory deck and bore but will be a bit higher due to .005" off deck and .020" over bore.
Rods - Factory shotpeened
Rod bolts - ARP
Clutch - 1989 Ford Taurus SHO (Larger 9.25 inch diameter)
Flywheel - 1988 Thunderbird
Flywheel bolts - ARP
Head - 1987 Ford Escort GT (roller cam and smaller exhaust. The smaller exhaust ports allowed me to have enough material to port and gasket match to the Escort RS manifold.) D shape to round port.
Headgasket - Cometic MLS
ECU - The engine will be managed by a Megasquirt 3 powered ECU called the PIMPX that is engineered by Stinger Performance. The PIMPX is direct plug in play. This ECU also comes with built in MAP sensor so NO MORE AIR METER.
Injectors - 35 lb brown top injectors from 1985.5 2.3 Turbo Mustang SVO
Transmission - 5 speed MTX

Can anyone here tell me what they would expect from a 1.9 CVH running 15 PSI with the mentioned build? The Turbo's Turbine is .48 and the Compressor is .60.
The car weighs 1938 lbs. 2150 lbs with me. I will be installing a 3" exhaust system and will definitely get better tires.

I like that. Problem here in the states is that there aren't many people who successfully built a 1.9 CVH with a T3. Lots of chopping DSM manifolds and home-made 5th injectors to compensate the extra fuel. Although it works in many cases many people just haven't had their setups long enough for improvements and experimenting.
There is one guy here in the states who successfully made his CVH dyno 212 hp at the wheels and the Torque was around 240 I think. He's probably the best example I have seen so far and he literally inspired me to do my CVH years ago.
Coming here to Passionford in 2009 was a big help not only to find the manifold for my T3 but also to learn about the experiences with 1.6 and 1.9 builds. You guys are the absolute gurus in this subject and I thank you for being around.

Forget 5th injector setups and the like. It needs a new and up to date management so it can be properly tuned. The 1.9 capacity should make it easier to reach the 250 mark. I made 196hp with my 1.6 CVH with a hybrid T2 turbo at 18psi. The T3 should flow better and produce the power more easily.

I am not a fan of the 5th injector idea either even though it works for some. My sole purpose was to have a car that I can drive around with confidence. If I do reach 250 hp i MAY find my clutch slips. We'll see. I believe 200 is safe for it. The clutch is from a 200 HP 240 TQ 1989 Ford Taurus SHO with the Yamaha V6. Lucky enough it's size fit snug into the bell of the transmission. Thanks for the input.
