Default 1986 MK2 XR2 - RS1800 Engine - Classic Ford Feature Dec 2017

I bought this as a painted rolling shell with no interior and an engine balanced in the bay but no interior back in 2013.

Car pretty much finished:

The interior i managed to find in Norwich was in fantastic condition and managed to get some new old stock floor mats:

Got it on the road last year and did a few shows

Also got accepted for the international ford day so happy with that. Car will be in the 40 years of the fiesta area.

Basic Spec:
RS1800 Engine with H/O inlet (130bhp)
XR2 stock box - would like an LSD one
Puma shortened gear linkage
Magnex stanless exhaust including 4 branch
Induction kit
New injection fuel tank

All the rest is standard and the majority of it new.

Things i'd like to do:
Change the headlining - i know where to buy but haven't
Change the box to LSD one
Wire in the stock stereo
Paint the floor red so all the new stuff stands out as its black at present.
Fit a polybush kit i have

Very nice. I think I may have an 8 hole lsd at my mom's so if you want it and pay postage you can have it.youll have to get it fitted into a gearbox with 8 holes in the Crown wheel cuz early 5 speed had 6 holes, ill take a look tomorrow at my mom's place. I went a slightly different root lol

2 5 v6, mondeo box .should be fun

I still have the standard wheels so will swap between the two set depending on what the car is going to be used for at the time.

Im also getting another set done face mounted with hidden hardware (this is how i wanted these done but there wasnt enough time before a show i was attending)

Vectra gsi coil overs work a treat with sierra top strut bearings and it's a 50mm drop in the lower part of the ajustments so you can play with stiffness, bottom hub bolt hole lines up and top one needs opening up n washers welded on then use a camber bolt in the top,hey presto coil overs on the front for Ł120 all in

Different top mounts on the mk2 so you get a lot more adjustment no matter which coilovers you use.

I would use a decent make coilover if you are going down that road tho.

Hi

Had them done by voodoo motorsport and went from 13x6 to 15x6.5

If you need an introduction let me know

It is not possible to make a set like this without going up at least 1 size but probably more than likely 2 sizes.

I would like to see a set of stock 2wd Cosworth wheels done to 17" with hidden hardware

Cool, i have a set of 13" capri pepperpots that i would love to get converted to split rim and the same time 15" diameter and maybe 8" wide, do you think they would be able to do this?

No problem. I wouldn't go any wider than 5.5 barrels though as im really close to the struts on mine. Give me a bell and will have a chat.

While im working away the car is in for full underside restoration with Torques performance and having braided fuel and brake lines fitted.

they work fast - this was day 1

Front arches stripped down:

All the bolts have gone off for re-zinc plating and everything else is off to the powder coaters.

New polybush kit should be with them today and a set of Gaz coilovers.

Will be changing the brake servo etc. over at the same time.

The floor was covered in sealant which revealed a few small holes to tackle but on the whole was pretty good apparently.

Floor will go red with red bushes and everything bolted to it black.

Just got to get it back together for Ultimate Stance at the end of the month as its on the pink wheel whores carpet.

Likewise! First class XR2 you have there, mate and I totally doff my cap to you for having those split-rim pepperpots actually made. I've photoshopped them on my car a few times and that was as far as I got, so respect due, sir!

Should look great with the black running gear against the red floor. My concours XR2 is black, so I've kind of had to go with a black floor and of course most of the suspension parts are satin black, but I've introduced a little colour with the dampers in red, polybushes and stuff like the tie bars, ARB and panhard I've done in metallic gunmetal. I'll be posting a thread on my car when I've sorted the photos.

I think that second set of rims you mentioned with the hidden hardware will look even better than these. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

Many thanks for the kind words Viper. They caused the builder a few headaches and are not exactly what i wanted so may be having another set made next year. I didn't really want the hardware on show

Yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from there. It's just the desire for the 'pepperpot look' isn't it, but at the 15" size so at first glance it looks stock but a second one and you go: "Ah, that's really cool what he's done there!".

As I say, I've toyed with this myself for mine for ages and never thought anyone would A) Ever actually have a set done to see if it was possible and B) if any company would even undertake the challenge. Seems it's a yes on both counts

I've decided to go for the easy option with mine and go 7x15 Lenso BSX (or Dare DR RS) when I get around to the wheel swap.

They're doing a cracking job there by the looks of it . Best bit when you're putting the refurbed and new bits back on, isn't it?

Still on schedule for your deadline is it?
