Shame on them, I didn't realise they had no cjc.

Im not sure what ecu Rod is using but if he is interfacing the amp directly to the ecu I wouldn't be positive that the ecu would have a sampling rate of over 10Hz for an analog input. Unless the ecu is windowing events in which case it might (and that would be cool).

I think to catch an individual ignition event at 6000 rpm you would need a sample every 5ms, but with Nyquist that is more like every 2.5ms which is 400Hz, to actually pull info about each ignition event rather than just when its happening you would probably need 10 to 100 times that sampling rate at 4Khz to 40Khz..... thats getting pretty quick for an off the shelf logging unit if your interfacing to an ecu for logs. Completely possible though.

I've never actually used an egt probe to that extent, I just use them to get a rough idea regarding timing and to see how balanced the mixture is between cylinders, at which point a slow sampling rate is fine.

Have gone with Ray Halls suggestion & ordered the Exhaust Gas Technologies unit & 4 stinger probes. Not the cheapest its £405 delivered.
Next the decision on the Voltage Booster.
Good man, let us know how you get on

How have you got the transducer in the cylinder?

The system I used a few years ago (but do not own or have access to) had a metal diaphragm inserted into the head, with a port going into the combustion chamber, a fast acting pressure transducer was on the other side of the metal diaphragm, I assume they did this due to temperature. It was a small aviation engine on a static test rig. The kit must have been 15 years old if not more and results were displayed on a storage scope triggered on TDC of the cylinder of interest, despite this the system worked well enough to do the testing needed.

The two non distructive systems i have seen (via google) use either a hole up the side of the plug, or a crush ring transducer which sits between the plug and the head. Although I have also seen a system which has its transducer between the head and block....

Which have you used and what were your problems with it? the hole in plug kits seem to start at around £1000 for a single sensor and amplifier without software and other kit. The problem I have is that for every engine (ie different cars/manufacturers/models) you would have to get a different spark plug modified. Ok if you usually do a single type of car YB or RB for example but a bit naff if you hope to use the kit on the usual variety of vehicles.

Rob,

Have decided to buy the Fuel Pump Booster & placed the order today. This will be used to supply only the Fuel pump & can be taken to the Dyno. The existing 16v Accuvolt system will be adjusted to +15v & supply the CDI, EGT Amp & I believe Mark wants the ECU on that also or indeed anything else he wants to supply. When it supplied the Fuel pump it could not supply a lot else. My Missus brother is over for 3 weeks from Canada so cant do much during that time.

Im not sure Mark is going to post about this or not but alongside the development of my engine he is doing a similar Spec with the Evo engine. A very excited Mr.Shead just rang me to say it made 931bhp/740ft-lb torque at 3bar of boost the fuel used was 109. FTW fuel was not used because the car ran out of Fuel Pump capacity. The same Pump Booster I have ordered for mine will be fitted to this engine this will allow up to 3.5bar to be used & with FTW being a far better fuel we could be looking at high 900's here with road going low down torque. Im chuffed because the YB usually betters the EVO spec for spec so just maybe 950+bhp 750ft-lb is not as far away as we think. The mods to improve the head gasket integrity I have on mine also worked with no head lift or loss of water. Its taken a long time Mark but this is uncharted territory for a road mannered YB & im now getting rather excited about mine that will be built by end of November.

Best of luck rod, I've always thought the yb looks kinda similar to the evo engine no wonder mark is doing both. Wonder what one is "better" if there was such a thing.

Think Mark would shade it to the EVO its head gasket integrity is better at these high bhp.

Do you think your make the kind of torque that evo makes rod or are you going to limit the amount

Today Mark was back with the EVO to totally max out 109 ron race fuel. He added as much ignition as possible & ran as weak as was safe & made (wait for it) 978bhp/773ft-lb . Hes just rang me & is purring like a kitten. The aim with this car is to now fit a Fuel Pump Voltage Booster & use FTW Purple. Another 2.3% more Power is needed to crack the 1000bhp & FTW tends to make around 5/6% over 109 so it likes likely to sail over 1000bhp on a 9180. Torque could approach 800ft-lb. Mark is now going to get mine built ready for the Dyno & wait until December before having another crack with the EVO. He wont be drawn on mine but said if our latest head gasket integrity mods work, Power wise the YB fares well against the EVO but the Torque is usually down. Im now getting a tad excited not good for an old sod as the prospect of a ground breaking street roadable YB with close to the magic 4 figures.

We are using 4 'K' type Thermocouples that produce very very small millivolt signals. The ECU cant read these little millivolts so they need to be Amplified.

This piece of kit arrived from the States today.
Its a voltage Booster to deliver up to 22Volts to the fuel pump. The Protec Veyron P1 pump can take up to 19v so I guess we will set it to circa 18v. The increase in Volts is controlled by the Emtron KV8 via a 0-5v input as & when more fuel is required. This is a belt & braces approach & the pump can deliver 1000bhp of fuel @ 4bar boost on Methanol when fed with 18v.

22 volts! Only 2 off a truck set up. I've changed a couple of units like that that Isuzu use to boost there 12 volt truck signal to power a 24v trailer

Mark is away in the States so got on with one of the many small jobs. We need the Fuel Pump booster on the Dyno so made up a Booster/Relay module that can be used in the car & also for the Dyno. Plugs into the loom & will switch on Fuel pump & ecu will control Voltage Boost.

Started to re-commissioning all the parts. The Intercooler was sent to Spec-r to be checked & re-painted. The Turbo cooler also now looks like new. The rad saw me breach one of my own rules check before you buy. My car had been modded in 2009, having the front cross member moved forward to fit a one-off Intercooler. Now im using a rattler front pulley even more space is required so a set of thin fans are required. I bought them & they are just fine BUT they didnt fit my bespoked radiator . A phone call to Pete at Spec-r would have saved mesome aggro. Yesterday I drove down to Pete & he modded the radiator as I waited so that the fans fitted. Thanks Pete.

The car was taken off the road & its now in bits waiting the new engine so nothing to view at this time.
Heres the previous engine 838bhp/666ft-lb using a GT4202 we hope to have 100bhp more with the new engine.

Heres what the car looked before new engine. The Black vents & bonnet pins will be replaced by white is about the only mods

Went to Marks today & he was working on my Engine so its happening. We discussed a change of plan we are going to put the engine in the car & run it a few 100 miles after a map on the RR its to sort out the bugs before going for big figures on the Dyno. This build is different to other YB's he has built so want to be sure of no probs on a very public Dyno session that should be covered in a mag. In the car date is February 2016 & then we shall see when to Dyno it. He was talking about 1000bhp again today which worries me a bit & I may have to take a few pills before the Dyno run. It also gives Mark time to put another engine on the Dyno we are tending towards to iron the bugs out of that with regards to Fuel pump Capacity. Also time to use FTW Purple in his 978bhp EVO conversion to see if its as good as they say.
