Desert storm isn't dead...engine & box in
#165
Thanks, I have an engine for it at the moment, but not sure if it will make it into the car since it's relatively standard, possibly makes more sense cutting my losses and shifting it on or using it in some way toward better specc'd one. Sadly it's on a 205 block which isn't exactly a good base for half decent power although it has been rebuilt very recently.
Timescale has completely gone out of the window, will keep working away on it but no way it will see any meets this year, I'm only home about 5 weeks between now and the end of August, and there is not a lot I can do until the bodywork is done apart from buy stuff and spend more money
Wheels are still a sticky point, decided I don't want Rondells, but the getting the comps I want in 18" are proving an issue. Agree with you on the 17" vs 18" comment, however since the arches are massive I'm going for 18's or anything else will look lost I think, the radius is slightly different, was actually going to make a template from my normal saph and overlay it onto the this one just out of curiosity to see the difference.

Ok so whilst I am deciding what to do with this, I've got some spare time on my hands and it seemed worthwhile to carry on with small bits.
The beam, arms and rear hubs are already refurbished, and with the small amount of effort to get the shafts and diff cleaned up it would give me a completely fresh rear setup.
Will send them off for electroplating and powder coating, I have a few other bits I need to gather up that will get done at the same time.

Oh well it was worth an ask I suppose! Is the escort a big spec too then?
Started stripping the bits off of this, the engine itself has only covered about 50 miles since a full rebuild, however it didn't look too good. I purchased it from a good friend, so I know it's legit. Cam cover has been sent away for refurbishment and I'm also having the other bits electroplated to see how they turn out, if I end up selling this engine at least it will look the part. For now it will keep me a little busy, and no point in waiting for the bodyshop to finish before I begin with this.

Not too far Glenn, still not much been done since I posted last updates though. Passenger side just needs smoothed down, then it will be ready for primer/paint. Think I have finally decided to press ahead with it, I'm already 65% there, won't see any reasonable return on the money I've spent so be as well to just crack on and get it done. I won't be painting it the same colour.

Picked up some of the engine bits I dropped off for blasting and zinc plating, as well as the rear shafts and CV parts. Just in the process of tidying the engine up and refurbishing running gear at the moment. Cam cover might be back this week, need to get the inlet and exhaust manifolds sorted out, and decide what I'm doing with the fuel rail.
Progress on the shell is slow, but nearer the time for paint I'll make the final decision on colour, but it will likely be a dark grey of sorts.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I loved this car when i was a wee one - in fact it's thanks to this cars i got into Fords and wanted a Sierra. Keep up the good work.
It would be nice to see it back to Imp blue with Rondells but equally it would be cool to see it modernised a bit and complete in another incarnation.

Think you hit the nail on the head it either needs a touring car engine back in it and done to how it was (which I would like to see but not paying the bill lol ) or a total another twist on it

cossie fan (unluckerly)
I'm not a fan of the look of the car at all but if I'm honest I'd say it needs to go back as it was same colour and wheels. That way there's an excuse for the way it looks lol.

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
Its very cool to see this car being restored, you should've gone 2up and used an cossie V6 with twin turbos as turbosystems do right now, would suit the big car!

Should be ready for paint in the next few weeks, a bit still to do but that's the bulk of it completed. Once the prep work is finished, it will be stripped again for paint and glass taken out since it's going to be painted a different colour with different wheels. I want a more factory look so have opted to try and modernise the car with a different colour, I realise this won't be everyones cup of tea though.
