Default Budget daily oil burner

I needed to get a new daily for the work commute. After looking around I've decided not to buy a car for a few grand that will be worth nothing in a year or so, instead I've got something that's virtually consumable.

'54 plate Mondeo Ghia X 2.0TDCI
Really tidy inside and out BUT judders a bit under load and cuts out
Google seems to suggest this is a common problem on this engine and may not spell a trip to the knacker's yard just yet?
So far it's cost me £650.

Plans are to sort out the running issues.
New MOT (current one runs out 15/1)

Then
EGR blank
Panel filter
De-cat

And if all that goes well probably bigger intercooler and a re-map (any recommendations in the Essex area?)

Oh and I'd quite like to change the wheels to.

Sounds like it has impending injector / pump failure.
