Default Xr3i Mk3 Resto

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on here. Finally getting started on my Xr3i resto. Its been sitting in my garage for the last 5 years or so. Out of sight out of mind and all that!!

Basically I have a 1983 1.3 L shell done 30k fsh ect been ziebarted from new so very little welding required I have a very rotten xr3i to transfer the parts across, but most of it is in boxes Taken it apart years ago!

The pics I have posted are as it stands at the minute. Getting the bits of welding done, cleaning off the ziebart ready for some new primer and red paint.

Any advice would be more than welcome. But I am going for an almost standard Xr3i, no engine mods maybe adjustable suspension and some nice wheels, changing the colour to Rosso Red from Sunburst but thats about it I reckon.

How it was, 32000 miles

Genuine front panel, have genuine wings to fit when inners have been dealt with.

Floor is solid, only one minor hole in passenger floor corner.

The collection from a few years back, its hard to say no when they come along!

Hi Jim, its a 1985 B plate. Not sure if im gonna use the id from it yet tho. I know the later mk3s have single bolt strut top and I think the gear stick hole is slightly different, but sure its not a problem. What is it you are doing with yours mate? Is it mk3?

I was going to mention the strut tops are different. Nice to see another mk3 being restored. I've got a mk3 mineral blue 3i which i'm currently restoring and turning it into a track car. I've got a resto thread on here.

So you're going to put the id from the xr3i into the other shell?

Had a look at your mk3 mate, looked like a minter on the bodywork, just goes to show what lurks beneath. Looks like your doing a good job with it tho mate, what are you doing engine wise leaving it standard?

Been saved by the ziebart mate, actually suprised myself how good it is, was expecting much more welding!

Cheers buddy. As for the engine I want to do a period turbo technics conversion. Not chasing power figures I'll be happy with 160bhp. The body is moving along nicely now, I've repositioned the rear half of the roll cage on the struts and the outside of the shell is now in primer.
