i have a thing on my wiring loom at the front passanger side that has a z shaped spring on the end and i looks like it pushes onto a plastic switch, it is part of the loom, but could anyone tell me where it goes. cheers Ash

Sounds like the outside temperature sensor which drives the red and amber snowflakes in the warning panel. It clips into a hole in the bottom of the front chassis member on the passenger side.
