Well it's not like me but I just realised I haven't updated this thread for ages.
The first time out at Donington was a mixed experience. The car had only just been run in so I was taking it fairly steady but then during the second session the oil pressure started to fall and coming out of Coppice I thought it's not picking up properly so I backed off and brought it in - too late there was the dreaded knock.
It turned out that there was some sort of oil starvation and I'd knocked out the 5th and 6th big ends but all of the others and the mains were unmarked, ahh well back to the garage
On the plus side the car handled superbly and felt great on track as you can see from the shots above.
Anyway, this was 2 July and there was plenty of time to rebuild it for Croft on 1 Sept but as I work away during the week and had promised to finish all of those other jobs that kept getting left while I was sorting the car, we ended up going right down to the wire on the rebuild and I found myself in the unit at 10pm on the Friday night before Croft finally boxing things up. The car was running fine and I left for the night and set my alarm for 5:30 the next morning.
It's 6 am and I'm back at the unit putting the gearstick on (and making a mental note to sort out that bolt was catching slightly on the inside of the nearside rear as I'd forgotten about it then run out of time - more of that later) and checking everything I needed was in the boot.
I then gave the car a bit of a wash before heading over to Croft - Steve (The Youth) had already made the trip to drop his Sierra and arrived about 6:30 and guess what - the f'in thing wouldn't start . Anyway, we messed about for about 20 mins and decided to winch it onto the trailer and sort it out at the track.
So off we went and arrived a Croft bright and early for the Durham and Derby RSOC weekend.
I set to work trying to get the car started and it was having none of it - in the end (thanks to the lads helping out - Rob, Kirky, Steve, Youngy, Lee, Jacko etc) and after swapping coils, plug leads etc. etc. we decided that the Lumenition box had fried itself. A quick trip down the road to Motoscope and a new one was procured and when we put it onto the car and it fired straight up
By now it was 3pm so I went straight out onto track, didn't even bother to put the front spoiler on (and this is the only photo of the car on track that weekend)
As you can imagine with zero miles on the engine I was taking it really easy but I had good oil pressure, oil temp and water temp so I was very happy although it seems the crowd weren't. This is a comment from one of the lads on here
"Theres no way i'm pushing that Mk1 escort around the pits again though, only for it to pootle about like a sunday afternoon trip to tescos...
...Please don't take this the wrong way,but the Mk1 was the biggest disappointment of the weekend for me,after all the effort of getting it going, and looking at it sat there looking menacing."
Well that session went OK and I pulled back in to give the car the once over, checked the levels, wheel nuts etc. and everything was fine so I put the spoiler on and waited for the next session.
We're in the last session of the day, the car is looking and sounding fine and it's had a run round so I'm looking forward to a steady session and then to a full day's action on the Sunday.
Now, you remember that bolt I mentioned earlier, with all of the grief and agro it got forgotten about until coming out of Sunny Out it made it's presence know again and there is a bang followed by the car going sideways. I caught it and then it went the other way, again I caught it and then brought it back round to the pits to find this
Anyway, that was it for the weekend as I had no spare and no one happended to have a 245/45R16 tyre laid about so it spent the Sunday on the Old School stand
The new tyres arrived on Saturday (there were none in the country) and are 245/35R16.

I got the new tyres fitted Saturday, 245's with a 35 profile and I can't believe how much clearance they give over the 45's that were on - no more worries about them rubbing on anything now
Anyway while I was there I couldn't resist taking the car round the block a few times, (and so did Jacko) - just need to get it taxed and tested
The car's popping and banging a bit in this clip as the exhaust is blowing slightly but it does sound awesome.
Play it loud (oh and excuse the f word from Carl who was watching )

I finally got round to polishing the car for the first time since it was painted almost a year ago. Until now it's only ever had a bit of a wash

I had the car in for test on Saturday - flew through - and then over to Croft for the Great North Air Ambulance Motor show.
I had a good run out with some of the lads in their Sapphires and when Dicko was following me he said it was flaming well on the overrun
Here's a couple more pics
This one's courtesy of Kirky

Hello mate - your English is fine and a lot better than my Finnish
The Zakspeed kit is available from Fibresports
10, Bowlers Croft, Basildon, Essex SS14 3EG Tel: +44 (0) 1268 527331
As for the wheels they're a Nissan fitment Compomotive CX-600 which I bought from eBay. I'm not sure if they're still available and can't get to Compomotive's web site at the moment - www.compo.co.uk
Hyvä Menestys

I spent a few hours in the garage on Sunday fitting the the new Lumenition Optronic Mega Spark 4 Coil (and ballast resistor) to go with the new Optronic module I had to fit at Croft, and set up the timing.
I also fully secured the seats and checker plates and refitted the passenger footrest.
Then I fitted the new Schroth Profi II 6 point harness - ebay, brand new in the box (FIA approved until 2009) specially made for the Porsche GT3 Cup cars. I wasn't sure whether it would fit but it went in no bother

Not been on here for a ages
The other Saturday I got the Mk1 out for a bit.
This is it warmed up and being given a quick wash by Jacko before we set off - new back boxes fitted with rotational baffles, this is the loud setting
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2Tepg4d2y4
and then out for a "fly-by" (no law breaking going on as I'm still running the car in so only revving it to 4 - 4500rpm)
I just wanted to hear what it sounded like as I've got no video of it on the road or track since the rebuild

Hey Ryan, did you get a kit OK?
Car has now had it's full re-wire, including a new console layout (cheers to Alan at www.stocktonautocentre.com) putting everything to hand, new 4 link kit (cheers to Carl at www.blueovalgarages.com) to stop me snapping them (did 2 prior to this ) and a new tank to replace the Capri one.
oh. and I fitted some cup holders (got sick of balancing a cup of coffee between my knees when I drove up to Perth last year )
