Default My first Ford - mk2 fiesta. It's good to be back...

Hi all. I just thought would show you some pic's of my first ford. I am a very happy boy. The car is a 1988 mk2 fiesta 1.1. Is was 2h30 from me so we went and had a look at it. These are the pic from the web site where it was for sale.

So my dad and me had a good look at it and pretty soon realised it was solid and run well. So it was mine for the grand some of 175 euros (150"ish" pounds).

The drive home was not so much fun. As the carb was not set up well and the car keep stalling. We followed my Dad in the van as he had GPS and kept a look out for the rozzers as the car he no control technique ( French M.O.T)

Once we got the car home i washed it so i could see how bad the faded red paint was ( or as my Dad calles it pink)

Its not 2 bad but not 2 good but my Dad is a bodywork specialist so he thinks he can get back to red for me. I have not had a good look at the bad points of the car so will update later on today.

The dash is a mess but it will clean up.

There is also some other little jobs but nothing to bad.

Once all that is done I would like to have nice polished red paint black bumpers with peperpot wheels.

I would like to lower it a bit but nothing O.T.T so i was thinking xr2 springs what do you think?

The old 4 speed is showing its age and I am going to put a 5 speed in it. The little 1.1 run well so I am not going to do anything to it for now.

What do you all think?

So if any one has any suggestions or pics please post them to give me ideas.

Isn't it already running unleaded at that year, I remember the Mk4 Escorts of that year would, but the earlier Mk3 wouldn't unless you had the hardened valve seats put in.

So i've been working hard in the fezz this weekend.

I removed the black strips down the right side of the car. That took a long time as had to go over the stripe with petrol and then scrap it of a bit at a time.

Then I started to bring the old paint back to life, ive t-cut the bonnet and right wing but now getting low on t-cut and as u cant get it in france going to have to get some of amazon.

Just look after it mate. I like periode tuned cars so i will tune the little 1.1 a bit but nothing o.t.t, xr2 springs to get it lower to the ground and xr2 brakes. Hopefully this weekend I will get some peperpot's and get the bumper sprayed but can't decide on matte or gloss black what so you think?

Not sure on the carb, if it would fit or work assuming xr2 one, but I have seen big carb set ups for these, Valencia, or series x, twin carbs, I've seen a few sets of these but couldn't tell you anything about them.

That's a cracking job mate.

I feel your pain, I'm currently sanding down my rear trailing arms. It's a slow old job but when the results look like yours it's definitely worth it.

Well done fella and your dad is right, the VV carbs aren't worth a wank. Diaphragms go in them almost overnight and the entire set-up is just a shit design.

Replacing it is a very good idea !
