Escort Cossie - Engine rebuild by Oppliger
Hi all,
Since the Escort engine has about 170.000miles on the clock it was almost time for a rebuild and after having problems with oil loss (all oil gone in 30miles) i was looking out for options...
First i've spoken to cossiedavid (David Pritchard), who gave me a very good feeling as Dave is a top man with a lot of knowledge
One of the other options that came to mind is Oppliger Motorsport in Italy.. Since i wanted more power, and i allready baught the Oppliger gearbox.. this was the better option as Oppliger could have the whole project for him (engine + gearbox)
After discussing what could be made of my rebuild engine, Romain Oppliger sent a trailer over to Belgium to pick my cossie up and bring it back to Oppliger HQ
Here it arrived in Italy
A few mods and specs:
Long studs
Bore block
Forged pistons
Ported head
Cams
Pulleys
Bigger inlet manifold
Twinscroll manifold & external wastegate
Custom uprated oil pump
Oil breather
ACL trimetallic bearings
Polish crack
850cc injectors
GTX3076
Mapped by Oppliger + ALS
They are also fitting the AP 6-paddle clutch and Oppliger gearkit in my gearbox wich should cope with all the power.
Romain said we should see about 480bhp in low boost and 520bhp in high boost with this setup. Even tough the GTX3076 can do more.. i guess with more boost there will be more surge
So let's see what this baby can push
I am really looking forward to the result as i have much faith in this big company in Europe.
Once i get some info or updates from Romain i will update here.

A brief history..
I bought the car with an MSD stage 2 chip in it (260bhp)
A few years later i upgraded it to the MSD 380+ package wich containts the 55lb black siemens, uprated fuelpump, and new chip.
At 1.7 bar it made about 350-360bhp.
That's the setup it has now but switching into Oppliger's engine spec (+500bhp with the 850cc injectors & GTX3076)

I'm sure it will! Really looking forward to the result as it is very important for me to have a very fast road car..
I do a lot of dragraces here (mainly starting from 2nd gear), there is a big underground scene where i live and to be a part of it you have to have something quite fast
So i'll hope a cossie with +500bhp and eventually at 1200kg give me some nice races.
The gtx30 turbo is good for quick spool AND high end power so that's nice too.

So, the only update so far is we are probably going for the EFR8374... and the supra diff is in the pocket
It's because next year i'm going for 600+ (more 650)...
And for now, i'm keeping the original ECU (P8), budgetwise, can't go for another management..
So i THINK the engine will run low boost 530-540 with the EFR8374.. But i'm worried about lag then..
Have to talk about this with Romain..

Car is "ready" but not good enough.
Oppliger made 520hp and 480lbft on the dyno but wants to change the backhouse of the turbo to 1.05 external gated.
Now it was 0.92 internal gated..
So we could make more power (ą550hp)

It's the oppliger semi-helicoil gearkit..
Don't really know if it's big tooth.. Just 15° helicoil tooth and standard ratio.
ITS A MENTAL car now, almost shit my pants the first time i floored in 2nd gear haha!
