wurth do a sprayable seam sealer that can also be used for brushed joints and with the right gun you can apply thin enough for a stone chip protectant
it sets very rubberised

The problem in Croatia is that most of the protection products are too hard in the end and they crack and let water under it! I would like to find something similar to original Ford rubbery coating...
3M do a spray sealer that's exactly what you want, the part no is 08800, make sure you paint the bare metal areas before applying it. That's what I used on Cosmo and loads of other projects that needed to look OE.

This is the best stuff to use along with epoxy primer on bare steel first.

Thanks guys for Your help!! I ordered 3M 08800 sealer at my local supplier!

All beams are finished and closed! Next on the list is steering wheel chassis bearing and linkage and modification of the pedal box.

I have decided on the color for the car... It will be dark black candy finish on a Ford performance blue base color.

This is only a test to determine the number of candy coats and darkness.

In the last few days I've sorted a lot of chassis details so I don't have to cut and destroy the paint when it is once done...

I have also tried another paint color and it looks much better!! It is a dark black candy green with green pearl inside so in shadow the car will be dark black and in the sun the green pearl comes out depending on a view point on the car.

Steering shaft geometry is now all sorted and I have found the solution for front anti roll bar!! I will use the original Mondeo anti roll bar.

Final front drive train layout!! If only Ford did it this way... it would be a dream car...

I tried fitting the sierra front knuckles but there are too many problems... The wheels are pushed out by 20+mm and ackerman is not good for a longer Mondeo chassis.

If what I'm seeing in the pics is correct then you've welded the spline onto the steering rack pinion? If that's correct then I reckon that's unsafe, also I would have a UJ rather than the disc coupler as its sitting at an angle.

Yes,You are correct... I had to shorten the pinion because it was too far left and the angle on the joint would be too big because I didn't want to enter the cabin trough the beam...

I really never had any welds crack with TIG welding! Even on turbo exhaust manifolds with no turbo mount!!

This weld on the pinion is a deep V groove triple pass weld that was cooled during welding not to damage the torsion shaft and spline heat treatment.
I am pretty sure it won't crack... I know there is always the first time but this was my only option at the moment...

I am looking for a replacement joint without the rubber in it this was just to get the geometry right.

I hate the original items also!! They were never good!! So I made a new one with increased surface area but with no free play!! and it fits straight in the original rubber...

I agree with you, I've never had a problem welding the racks, But i would use a gpa UJ rather than the rubber disc version..
Going good, keep it up.

Hello!

I haven't been here for a long time...

I got a great job in UK so I'm moving with my family in Partridge Green. I expect to be in the UK latest on 1.1.2015. . I have to wait for my house to get ready for moving in.

My biggest question is does anyone have experience with importing cars to UK totally dismantled??
What is the procedure??

I would like to bring the car or at least the body shell with me so I can finish the conversion.

Please if anyone has some info send me a link here or in PM. Phone number or a web page ... any info would be helpful.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Marko

Yes I'm coming to work in UK! I got the job of my dreams...

The car was sealed with anti-corrosion and a primer in May because I had some unplanned expenses and I found out about the job in June so I didn't want to start doing anything until I am clear am I going to stay or move in UK.

So I was waiting for 2 months to confirm that I got the job and It took another 2 months to get the papers done and here I am...

The car body is actually ready for painting with front and rear drive train. After painting it can be put on the wheels.

I haven't done almost anything with the interior...

Congrats on getting a good job. Is it fabricating? And did it come from people seeing how skilled you are via your projects which you have shared on the internet?

I was interested in doing an RWD MK2 V6 Estate on day but after seeing this topic, I have no chance in doing it myself!

Perhaps with the X Type running gear and a lot less fabricating
but the (modified to RWD?) x type transfer box wont fit in the MK2 engine bay with a V6 engine apparently so I'll probably settle for FWD and fit a Quaffie LSD!

I'm sorry for my late reply... I have very little time for forums.

I got the job as R&D engineer in Audio Note (UK) Ltd. and I develop laboratory robots for automatic testing of electronic components.

I got the job on a recommendation from a friend and I passed a few tests.

I drove a FWD Mondeo for 2 years and it was a street weapon!! On slippery city roads with hydraulic handbrake it was a lot of fun!!

Hello!!

I finally found some time to upload some pictures.

I am waiting for my visa for UK so I have some time to work on the car...

I finished rear suspension mounts and rear brakes configuration.

Bad picture...

Rear Brakes are going to be Focus 278mm discs with Mondeo front calipers.Hole pattern and offset are perfect for this combination. I'm going to use a flow trough hydraulic hand brake cylinder so there is no need for H brake cables...

This is a picture with Escort Cosworth 280mm discs.

[

There is enough room on the intake side of Zetec head(which is placed on Pinto block just for reference) but it was crowded on the exhaust side so I moved the brake booster into the cabin space.

There was no way to construct any useful intake manifold for Cosworth,Pinto or Ford 2.3 Lima engine(pumped up Pinto) with stock Mondeo brake booster.

I used a Sierra booster and made an adapter for it so it can be placed inside the cabin.
I am going to reinforce the mounting and construct the brake pedal.

I also made some room for stock Zetec thermostat housing because I'm going to keep it right where it is originally on the head.

I still have to close the opening in the firewall...

I closed the firewall and I finally found the solution for gearbox mount. With a few cuts and welds I inverted the gearbox mount so the height is now perfect.

With sandblasting and a little paint it will look stock..

Hello everyone!

I have stopped with the project for a while because of sudden loss of job so I moved to UK,Partridge Green and found a job that I can do from Croatia.

I am happy to say that from 1. July I am going back to Croatia and I am continuing with the project!!

Just bought a spare Cosworth head and Zetec/CVH engine mounts(Zetec is going in just to get it on the road).

Updates will come soon!

Cheers!
