600 miles isnt enough!!! I need to be doing 6000 miles a year! Going out in the car as often as possible now.
I had 17's on this a few years ago and when I went to 15's it was so much better.
My brother has just bought a puma for a track car as well now.... Start work on it this weekend!

I know the feeling, well this weekend the car will be getting some use, planning on going out for a bit of a drive on Saturday evening so fingers crossed the weather is nice for it.

Fingers crossed.
Ive just found out that the front floor pans on my pooma are rotton. Its gonna need a fair bit of welding.
That bottom strut brace is good. It seems to steer in and out of corners better.

Track day No2 of the year done... Loved Mallory Park, fantastic little circuit. The weather was great and the car performed faultlessly..... Apart from when I let it down.
I had a "small" off at the esses, 80mph across the grass, ripped my splitter off, broke front bumper and dented my pride. Luckily only cosmetic damage so another ebay session for yet another front bumper.... Oh well.
This is the hardest ive ever pushed the Puma on track, I felt really at ease on this track, the high speed flowing nature of it seemed to suit the way I drive perfectly. My new tyres we're awesome I cant recommend the Marangoni Zeta 's enough, the difference semi slicks makes is huge once they we're warm they just kept getting better and better.
Anyway... a few pictures

I have indeed, the car is polybushed through out, transforms the way the car handles, just tightens everything up.

Managed to find a bit of time last weekend and start a few bits on the car. Started by making a new front splitter after Mallory Park destroyed my old one!
The company I work for has just been taken over so we have a stack of old signs that are now no use to us... They were all lined up for the skip so I managed to rescue a fair amount of them. The leading edge is the same shape as an FRP splitter but it will stick a further 2"'s forward that that of the standard FRP item. As is also obvious its a full splitter and not just a cosmetic curved item.
No idea if it will make a difference but it was free to make and its pretty light being made from 3mm foamex.
Need to go a pick a new front bumper up in the next few days and get it all fitted. Will be using a few supports and various brackets to make sure its nice and solid!
Oh it also needs a bit of black vinyl wrap on it.... No prizes for guessing who I work/worked for.

Plenty more updates coming as well, new wheel colour and tidying a few loose ends up on the car, the last few track days havent been kind to it.

Im having to use the puma as my daily at the moment, im in a legal battle over who should pay for the work on my Edition 30 GTI so its thats currently out of action.
Its been running like a bag of nails as well the last few days, over fuelling massivly, it stinks inside the car. Got a feeling it might be the lambda sensor failing, stutters when I accelerate and has no power over 4k revs.

DSG gear box shit itself after 2 weeks... that was nearly 2 months ago. Currently in the process of taking the dealer to court in a bid to get my money back as he is refusing to fix the car.
He also miss sold me a warranty that was never activated in time.

.... Bought another one
This is my new little run around while im without my Golf GTI, as im in stuck in a legal battle with the Golf I needed something super cheap to run around in and this popped up 10 minutes down the road, Ł450 later and it was mine.
It isnt the prettiest looking one out there, few scuffs and scratches but it appears mechanically sound and is relatively low mileage with only 84k on it.
The is another reason for buying a Puma.... I can cannibalise it for spares when im done with it!

Did a little buy today, went to see my mate Leon who runs EP Racing and got myself some nice anodised fasteners. Ive decided the car needs a bit of smarted up so im starting with the little details.
Neo chrome and orange for the door cards and a few exterior bits like the canards etc. My car will be on display at next years Autosport International Show so its time I got it back up to standard.

So yesterday I made a start on fitting my new front splitter, its a bit wider than an standard FRP item and it also sits a bit further forward. The Foamex material its made from is nice and light but its also just a touch wobble at the rear.
The front once It has the extra two supports on will be nice and firm but I'l need to brace the rear part of it to stop it flapping around at high speed. Hopfully I'l get it finished next week, I've also got my canards to add and to drill the holes for the quick release pins.
Once I sorted that It'll all come apart and I can then wrap the splitter blade and get the bumper painted.
Progress so far...

I managed to get a few little jobs done yesterday, just some small cosmetic bits that have been bugging me for a while but I did also do a job or two that i'd been meaning to for some time as well.
First up I replaced the nasty old bonnet bolts with some much nicer anodised cap head items.

I also did the same inside for my kill switch.

The door cars got some love as well.... replaced the nasty looking rivets with some much nicer fasteners, also means I can removed the door card now without have to drill the rivets off every time.

Tidied up the wash wipe hose.

I also solved my issue of not having any rear fog lights since I cut the bumper in half. I'd bought this MSA spec rain light months ago but only just got round to fitting it. Wired it into the old fog light loom.

And fitted... Will be treating to some of the same anodised orange bolts to hold it in place as well.... Nice and bright too!

One of the jobs i've been meaning to do for a long time is sort the threads out on the rocker cover studs, they we're cross threaded and it meant I could tighten the rocker down properly.
Like new..
Untitled by Jay Hardy, on Flickr
I also refurbed the little cup/washers and used some more fancy fasteners!
Untitled by Jay Hardy, on Flickr
Looking much nicer and its properly tightened down as well.. Win!

That was pretty much it for yesterday, more to come soon!

Cheers guys, Ive been tempted by an ST170 once or twice over the last few years, they do look very capable on track.
Hoping im gonna get chance to spend some time on the car this weekend, need to have it ready to go to Autosport International Show in January so need to get a move on with it!

Been spending the last couple of weeks getting a few jobs done on the car, nothing major just some cosmetic bits really, still debating whether to go all in for an engine conversion or move the car on at some point this year. I dont want to sell up only to regret the decision but my enthusiasm for the car is beginning to drift off somewhat.
But anyway...
Got the carriers all painted up... first picture shows how awful they looked and one that has had some wire wheel treatment.

Spent a couple of days over the Christmas period getting a few more little jobs done on the car. Just needs another mornings work and she'll be ready for 2016.
Completed the brake refurb

Also gave the car a quick service, oil & filter, fuel filter & new spark plugs. Not sure if I've cured its rough running as of yet but hopefully next weekend i'l get the car done and out for a test drive.
Just need to get the front bumper built up with a new bigger splitter and canards and she'll be done.... ish!

Not really to be honest, I dont think the car needs rear discs. Only reason I did it was I hated seeing a set of drums behind the wheels!
The discs and pads on the rear have been in for about 3 or 4 years now and there not even 50% worn.

I think next time im going to make one that extends back under the engine and fix it to the car rather than the bumper.
Went out for a drive in the car as well.. first time in about 3 months and its still not driving right. It has no power over 4k when the VCT is supposed to engage its just bogging down. coughs and splutters like hell and sounds like its going to stall.
