It is indeed for the launch control, its not that much of a reach to be fair... just far enough away to stop me pressing it all the time!!

Works and plays on track
Most at the moment at Mallory are in the week so I'm struggling to do one, will probably do a test day there during a holiday instead as I can
Some say it's boring but I love it there. Great being so local too.

Yeah I think the car will really suit Mallory, it was great at Blyton last week, short and very technical, was demon through the fast bend!

Well after getting married, honeymoon and just generally being the world busiest man for the last few months I finally found some time to work on the car.
Its been sat on the drive and hasnt moved for around 2 months now, flat battery, handbrake stuck on etc etc... basically looking very sorry for itself. So this winter the Puma will reinvent itself and im gonna be giving it a bit of a refresh and new look.
There are a long list of jobs I need to fix but as my Civic is blocking the drive space I just decided I would concentrate on the front end today.
Although the first thing I noticed when I moved the car back a bit.... Another thing to fix!
So first job was to replace crappy Kode quick release fixings which had faded after only a couple of months and the bands have snapped. Got some from my mate who owns EP Racing.
Ive also been looking into a few aero tweeks for the car, ive been looking at various race cars but FIA GT3 specifically and id noticed small gurney flaps on the rear edge of the front bumper. Supposed be extremely efficient at extracting air from within the wheel arch area, when that front tyre is acting like a spinning air pump! So I made some.
I'l be extending the front splitter as far back as possible using 1mm aluminium next.
Next I made a start on my brake cooling ducts, very big yes, but I can close them off should I need to. Just need to get some neoprene hose and route it to complete.
After that I got thirsty... What to do with the resulting empty can? Well make a catch can obviously! Orange as well so it matches nicely!
Inside ive made a couple of changes as well, snap off boss was the first and ive gone back to my "D" shaped wheel, much better for control, the dished one was just way too big and now my driving position is spot on
As well as that ive fitted a gear stick extender to bring the gear knob higher up, not by much but makes a massive difference, I dont feel like im reaching for the gear stick now.
Ive also got a new seat being delivered in the next couple of weeks. Same as this but all black with my custom #TrackAddict branding.
The next few months will see a big push to get the car back to where I think it should be, 2015 will be a big one for me and the Puma, I'l also be making my competitive debut in the Time Attack Hot Hatch class all being well.
Then... at the end of 2015 its going up sale. Onto pastures new.

Gear lever extender is an ebay buy, iys actually for a Civic but its the same fitment, mine is a skunk2 one to be specific.
It wont be a full season it'll just be a one hit wonder hopefully at Cadwell Park. Im hoping to get a bit more involved in motorsport in a few years.

Anyway..
Been busy buying and fitting stuff.
First up, Tyres! Ive only ever used Toyo T1-R's on track and Ive used the same single set for the 5/6 track days ive done!! So I thought I'd get some proper sticky rubber, after reading reviews and looking through all the options I went for the Marangoni Zeta's, mainly as a pair popped up cheap on ebay and I wont them for Ł100 in brand new condition, they still have the rubber nipples on and everything!!... Just need to get 2 more from Ears Motorsport or keep browsing ebay.
Apart from getting good reviews they also look pretty cool!
Marangoni Zeta semi slick, as used in the bmw compact cup and other single make championships, read some reviews and they seem on a par with the Toyo R888.
Then I had another ebay spending spree..
5 point harness in Purple... Why purple, I dont know!
New Atech side mounts
And Ive replaced my steering wheel, same again but my old was battered and mouldy
I finally got my seat from Atech Racing with my custom #TrackAddict logos on, it was 100% worth waiting for. Its very comfy and supportive, also seems very well made.
Obviously I wasnt going to wait around too long to get it fitted so last weekend this happened...
Its also a 5 point harness but I need to drill the hole and fit the ball breaker strap next weekend

you cant fix stupid
Looking good. One of the best pumas Iv seen. I also have been doing loads of aero research. I think I will copy your front bumper gurney flap. My track wheels are wider than car and it's been on my mind for a while about the drag. What do you think of the canards? Notice any difference or too subtle?

I think its far to subtle to make any noticeable difference.
Im going to extend the front splitter back to underneath the engine and then add a rear diffuser, again probably wont feel much difference but in theory it should all add up to make some sort of benefit.

Yeah I have thought about a baffled sump, Lightening Motorsport do them on an exchange basis I think.
But... There are plenty of guys out there using semi slicks on Puma's and havent had any issues with oil surge.
I'll see how it goes, I may invest.

Bit of an update, Ive managed to spend the last 2 sundays working on the car, the first of which was spent fixing things so now the car is back to its best.
I cured the knocking at the front with 2 new coilover units, turns out my old ones were pretty shagged!!
Last Sunday I just spent tinkering really, nothing major to report but I did attack the rear bumper with an angle grinder which left me with this..
Its something id been thinking of doing for a little while and since I was going to replace this bumper anyway I thought id try it.
Not sure on the looks but if it performs better then it'll stay like that. The bottom of the bumper hung down quite low and was shaped like a scoop. Now im no Adrian Newey but surely it would of been acting like a big parachute... It isnt anymore!!
Ive also finally had my ECU mapped with the Racing Puma map, will be taking the car for a run tonight to see how it feels.

Went out for a drive last night and the car felt much better in 1st and 2nd now that torque limiter has been reduced, you can feel the step much more when the VCT shuts down at 4k.
through 3rd and 4th it pulls well but its mainly lower down the revs where the improvements are with the FRP map.
Its running a bit rich at the top end but I imagine this is due the FRP engine being able to flow more air where as my standard inlet and cams are much more restrictive. Still, on a whole its much better.
