***g88*** sapph cos rebuild ***update 30/12/12
well chaps as the new year is just upon us its time i got the finger out and got going on the rebuild of the saff.
big shout to........... rscos[pat on here]
for lending me his brandnew rolloverjig so i could get the floor sorted out .tbh i had lost a bit of interest lying on the floor getting shit allover me cleaning the underside and at 45 it was hard to get in and out all the time lol
anyway friday i picked up the jig off pat and at 11pm i had it together and chasis mounting points fixed .yesterday evening i got it turned up on its side and i have to admit i was shitting a brick turing it over ,but all went well .today i have spent the day with tow paint brushes a ton of rags and a gallon of petrol cleaning off 23 years of gunk and thankfully waxoil .im glad to report that the floor is as good as new with only a couple of small scabs of surface rust .
heres a cou[ple of pics of progress over the last couple of days
tomorow i plan cleaning the rest off and then its decision time on how to refinish it ,although its nice and original it looks like ford just threw paint /underseal at it so i think i am going to paint it in diamond white as i have to repaint the engine bay too and weld up all the unnessacry holes in the inner wings .i will remove the battery tray too as the battery is goin to the boot .
the engine bay loom has being untapped and new wiring will be brought to the altenater and fans and thelight loom will be checked over and rerouted out of the engine bay ,also the coil wiring will be rerouted from the ignition .
anway its time to get moving on this and get it completed this year
ps sorry jim its taking so long mate lol

max, dont start frying my head now
if i was putting the car back to standard i would consider it max ,but being modified i want to run the theme throughout the car ,and as for the battery i just hate the way its sits and the wiring .everything just looks squashed in .moving the battery is something that can be reversed at some stage in the future should anything change .

To give an example was my escort,, modified low mileage... I had a the underside refinished in areas,, then re waxoiled... I wanted it to look like no one had been under there,, and not be too clean I was under it cleaning itevery time I used it,,, that I suspect you will be
Rear beams with pdi stamping,, paint splashes from factory etc.. That imo is was G88 needs
This man talks sense

Agreed, that looks lovely but it looks like every other clean example, It come across to me that James wants to make this very special, and going through the whole shell no bars held says special to me, b we all have our own opinion
Ps your right I won't want to use mine too much, dry weather only

I like the pure white too,, I just wouldn't do it on this car.. If I was refinishing it, it would be like it is now,, with the black splashes etc

max ,i promise i will give it some serious thought lol,and i fully understandand appreciate where you are coming from .

There's so few with the original patina of G88... painted undersides etc can be replicated and seen time and time again... When I owned G88, the paint was 90% original, interior totally untouched and as new,, with just the best bolt on modifications... I can count on one hand similar "clean examples",, it could have been if Ford had built it themselves and what set G88 apart from all the others
this is where the problem lies ,theirs pros and cons on both sides .
thanks for the input lads

Thats a relief and will be a nice touch,, I read it that you were cutting the battery tray out

not atall max ,i do appreciate all input mate
i actually bought g88 over the phone off mark without even seeing the car ,from reading posts on here about the car.
i have had a few people wanting to buy the car max,and the reason i never sold it is the same reason i bought it if that makes sense lol

ah andy ,dont be like that lol
battery is definatley going out of site mate ,i f$%kin hate it .
i want the engine bay as decluttered as i can make it andy as everything looks to me like it was thrown at the car,so a bit of reorganisation wont go astray .afterall its nothing that cant be changed back in the future
what do you think about the floor andy?

Personally I wouldn't be moving batteries either
You can still fit the coilpack etc up beside the battery anyway? That's where I fitted Mark's coilpack and dual ignition amps? I'll be moving mine too when I can be bothered
As for the underside, I'm with the don't paint it crew It looks mint the way it is!

You didn't think you'd get away with more than a day without me tracking down your updates.
SO GOOD, to see that the rebuild is now fully underway. Looks like those 16 years of keeping it in a nice heated garage, and three days of getting covered in Waxoyl really did pay off. That floor looks exactly like it did when I bought the car in 1991 when she was just three years old. PERSONALLY - I'd just clean it up and touch up where necessary, leaving it as original as possible to the eye.
Battery - Undecided ! ! ! ! I like you love things looking clean and minimal, so totally see where your coming from.
Meanwhile, I'm so looking forward to seeing the updates.
