Bonnet/Wing Louver Tool.....
So started on the bonnet for the twin engine corsa. I wanted to louver the bonnet as i think its very suttle, after doing alot of research no one where pressed louvers anymore into curved panels; load of places will do flat panels but as soon as you can curved bonnet etc they all say they are unable as it will press square corners from the outside edges of the tool around the louver. I did not want to weld in a louver plate eather.
There was a company years ago called Cool Louvers used to do them but they closed.
With all this in mind an the fact that even if cool louvers where still going it was going to cost me at least £150 to have the bonnet pressed, myself and my mate “ginger yoda” decided we would make the tooling and machine to do the jobs.
Heres my old milling machine which is perfect for little jobs
Making the tooling
The press, we really did not think it would make to be this braced, an it still bends
After trying loads of times and making changes over and over again, heres the final product (they are not lined up 100% we still need to make a back stop)
Put alittle paint on to look how they look as when you press them it brakes the paint so alittle hard to see if there uniform.
My twin engine corsa bonnet ready to be pressed once we have made the back stop, fitted my aerocatches in such a way non of the underside has needed cutting.
so after refining the tool and setup with a back stop, it was onto my bonnet
half way threw......
Done, really happy with how its turned out everyone is perfect. threw some paint on to see how it looks
P.S since cool louver has gone under and no longer do these i will have a website up offering this service very soon if anyone is interested
Same price as Cool Louvers charged £5 first 10 then £3 each over that.
So the corsa bonnet in the picture would cost £104 (28 vents).
