Budget Trackday Escort Bonus
Ive owned this car since May 2006 with the intention of turning it into a cheap trackday toy. Well those who know me will know how lazy I am and haven't really touched it since a few weeks ago. Anyway I bought it off a good mate of mine who bought it as a completely standard 1.1 bonus with 42k and its had a few owners. Its only ever had one piece of welding on the lower corner of one arch/sill and doesn't need any which is one the reasons I bought it, along with the fact it has no sunroof. Its a very solid car but does have a few rust scabs which are just superficial and add to the rat look lol. When my mate owned it he put in a rebuilt 1.6cvh from a mk3 xr3 which has a kent cam, k&n filter and full janspeed exhaust with 4 branch manifold. At the same time he added a mint escort turbo lsd gearbox but decided to just chop the springs, put some alloys on and added the awful tinted windows. Heres when I bought the car minus the alloys and then it just sat at my grandads then my nans. Since then ive put on some nearly new konis and -25mm rst springs, s1 wheels and removed the tints so far. Ive still got to strip out the interior and add my bucket seats and harnesses and a lot more besides but more on that when I start. Anyway enough waffling here are a few pics!
When I bought it home from my nans
Sexy trim lol
Done 49k now
Nice tints! (note the racing moss)
Rocker cover is going, ive got a couple of 16i ones but the breather hole is causing probs clearing the carb/inlet
Fanimold
Nice rusty shock
Thats better
Whos said chopped springs were dangerous lol
How its looks now after a quick TFR, first time its been cleaned since ive owned it
Thanks for reading!

hows it go with the cam in? as its basically the same as i had in the red one (1.6 cvh from xr3, with k&n and full straight through ashley system with 4-2-1)

Small Update! As i've booked on the RSOC trackday in Feb I thought I would do a little more on the car.
Flushed through cooling system and replaced with new pink coolant
I've also 'modified' the rotary arm in the dizzy by removing this spring so it doesn't have a rev limiter any more
Spark plugs have been replaced with some nice new motorcraft items which I had in stock
This is what the engine bay looked like before I started. I hate that chrome rocker cover especially as its rusty and has that gay oil cap!
Looks very clean inside which is a bonus!
Replaced rocker cover with a turbo one which I had knocking around and also the gasket. I know its not mint but who cares!
Also replaced the shockingly cheap and nasty HT leads with some I bought ages ago. Don't really like them so I didn't use them on the RST.
Thats all I managed to do yesterday due to running out of time. Still loads to do so I will update as and when. :1053177786:

Yea Jay im booked on, i cant wait now
MOT's going to be done Friday Matt but more to do than just the brake fluid unfortuately! The seats are out mate along with all the rest of the interior too You managed to find some race pads then? Hopefully these will last longer than 3 track days this time Having said that how late you brake probably not!
Always the way Nobby, when you sell something or throw it away you need it!

Thought I'd bring this one back from the dead...... I fitted the bucket seats and harnesses back in 2008 before I did a couple of track days
I then decided I wanted more power so ripped the 1.6 lump and LSD box out and sold it a friend.
My friend was selling his written off S2 with a freshly built and mapped Jamsport 1.9cvh running Gotech so I snapped it up. There's a graph showing 245bhp @ 12psi but the plan is to take it for another mapping session after a few tweaks.
The good
The bad
.....and the ugly!
I fitted all the running gear at my mates unit and this is how it looked when I got it home
As you can see the suspension was far too high so I bought these
Old spring vs new spring
Polybushed top mount
Also, now I had upgraded the power I felt that the xr3i brakes were no longer adequate so I bought a custom made 4 pot AP kit to fit behind the s1 wheels
I had to remove these stick on weights as they were catching on the calipers
Going to be running these wheels on the road and the s1 wheels on track due to tyre cost. So much more clearance over the s1's and much lighter!
I fitted these too, while I was at it, along with a complete brand new powerflex polybush set for the front end.
So here's how it stands from the front end now
So so many things left to do still but getting there slowly

Looks sweet dude.
Need to figure out how to get my grs on mine, couldn't get my standard rad fan on though, might have to purchase some kenlowes as yours seem to fit nicely, was there any bumper trimming involved?

Cheers ears! The standard fan will be next to useless tbh! The kenlowes are mega slim but work really well. I had some cheaper ones on there but just didn't cut the mustard. Had to trim the standard bumber a fair bit but I do have an ally rad on which is thicker than a normal one. If you're running a rst bumper there shouldn't be any trimming I don't think mate.

Lol @ cheers ears not heard that one in a while!
That's good to know, I'm running standard bonus bumpers on mine too bud, have to get the hacksaw out then!
She runs pretty cool at the minute though to be fair, if a decent set comes up on here I think that'll be my next investment
