1.6cvh NMS Red s2 project..Fitting a T34 and raising the boost to 27psi.
Hi all, as some of you know im having my engine built at norris motorsport, the engine will be ready next week so im starting to strip my engine down and getting it ready to be removed to fit the new one, couple of pictures of before etc and where i am now, then ill upload them as the new engine goes in and the mapping/work is done on the car.
The engine spec will be:
NMS bottom end
Cosworth mahle pistons 0.75 oversize.
Robson engineering EN24T H section con-rods custom made to NMS specification, shot peened and fitted with ARP big end bolts.
Original sump blasted, cleaned and painted in 2 pac black paint.
New modified oil pump, for high flow and high pressure.
NMS head work to flow up to 280bhp (For now)
Newmans phase 4 fast road cam, solid lifters and single valve springs.
2.5" exhaust with 4" tip
FMIC twin fans
T34 turbo
Group A k&n
Omex 600 managment, will have the anti lag and launch control on after running in.
Mk1 focus rs injectors.
ST170 300mm brake conversion, grooved disks and yellow stuff pads.
Thats about it for performance parts, all i can do it wait until i get the car up to Karl and Oli and let them work there magic on it!
Pictures to follow..

Couple of pictures from before i started taking the engine out..
putting the new head on, and having the omex fitted last summer..
T34 going on.
Couple videos of it on the rollers having its base map.
Got to love some red glowing!
Next up was the brake conversion, dont have many pics just the final look.
What i was left with over my car was a layer of metal filings from the grinding of the calipers to fit under the standard 15's, which soon turned to rust in the rain, so out came some little treats from the detailing kit.
Purple liquid indicates the metal filings.
Oh and the result of me putting my fingers in between the spokes to feel the gap, which my mate then decides to turn the wheels..Ouch is a good word to use.
Just incase you couldnt make out the above picture..My nail has since fallen off and grown back again!
Then the headgasket blew on my running in miles, approx 600miles, only just found out the reason which my original tuner should have told me, it was becasue i was using a head that had the oil/waterways for a zetec block rather than cvh so the headgasket obviously couldnt do its job! very annoying but not to worry.
Already had the head off at this point because it blew the gasket so a couple of pics as to where i am now.
Turbo out.
More stuff out.
As it stands now, Going to respray the engine bay whilst ive got room.
Today ive been preping the rocker cover ready to spray it black.
Will update as and when the engine comes out, Think im removing it on sunday.
Thanks, Joe

Zee Germans are coming
should be all good with nms building the engine
but
why not get the head fully worked while its getting work done to it anyway
will save you having to take it off if you decide to go more power later
seems silly to go that way personally

Its all to do with expense v man, costing enough as it is, plus the head doesnt have loads of skimming life left in it so when i come to wanting more power, ill just buy a new one and start again..Sounds silly but i have a deadline and a budget so i didnt do it first time..

Big update..
Done a bit of work on the rocker cover, bit different and havnt seen it done before, i done it with a dremel and it took a while! Its the norris motorsport 'NMS' engraved into the cover..
Next up was to remove the driveshafts etc to remove the engine..it was dark outside so the picture quality is crap..
Then the struggle began with taking the engine out, bearing in mind this was done on a driveway with minimal tools!!
bonnet off..
And yes this was lifted out with a bar and strops :/
The final thing was the steering wheel and snap off boss arrived today..

Little update
Spent a solid 4 hours on the engine bay today, thought id try and tidy it before the car goes up to NMS next saturday..
Couple before, mid and after pictures, pretty chuffed with the results in little time.
Before, Looking tired and old!
Middle of the process, looks alot better but has lots of patches of lost paint like under the header tank and fuel filter..
After, all sprayed/cleaned up (roughly)
couple others..
before and after comparison..
Also i received my flocked bit of dash from tony turbo on here, well chuffed with it, all the switches for anti-lag/launch control etc etc

New parts arrived
Getting close now to taking the car up to NMS, Cant wait!
Got my vibra-technic engine and gearbox mounts through, decided to go for the competition ones just to be sure, some would say a bit ott for a everyday car but it will see its fair share of track days this year!
Also gave her the last wash before i take her 200 miles away to NMS.

Firstly, OMG ouch! That must have been so painful!
Nice car, will be awesome when its all done. Great work on the engine bay, looks much cleaner and a clean bay is nicer to work in too

Small update..I got the car up to Oli/Karl a while ago and im hoping to get the car back next week sometime as they have been soo busy! Then only real thing that has changed spec wise is a different turbo, we decided that my current turbo was nakered so ive brought a cossie 4x4 t3 for the time being so i can run the car in and save for my new NMS spec T34.
The car will be getting re shelled in october to a white shell that im buying which is ment to be very nice (yet to see it)..
Also ive been looking into gearboxes for a while now and have decided i cant afford to buy a cts stage 2+ and brake it, then buy another etc etc..So im going to be running a Mk2 Focus RS box in it when Oli/Karl give me the all clear to do the conversion!
Ive brought a couple little bits for the car since the last update, a new boost gauge being one..
And these clocks, Made by 'Twins' which im chuffed about!
Thanks, Joe

The pictures hide alot tbh, got a hole in the scuttle and a rusty passenger door, plus there's bubbles around the sunroof and boot etc, NMS are mot'ing it and have done loads of welding on rear chassis leg and sills..Just start fresh and have a decent looking and quick escort! The red shell is ok for this summer though to go round tracks etc, not to bothered.
Thanks, Joe

So about time i did an update.
Heres a picture of the engine built after a long wait, Basically i was aiming to have the car back on the road for the first week in april but as always it wasnt straight forward, NMS where giving the car an MOT while its there and Oli came across ALOT of rust that needed sorting, so this has put it all back a couple weeks, hopefully it will pass the MOT mid next week and ill have it back soon!
Lots of pictures of rust/holes for those of you that get turned on by it, After these pictures you will understand why i am keeping this shell for summer track days and reshelling the car in october!
Anyway, porn pictures are here..Big thanks to Chris ST off here for taking them and sending them across.
I asked NMS to remove my abs etc at the same time, With that came a new master cylinder because mine was leaking and all new brake pipes.
Im also going to pick up my full flocked dash off Tony Turbo on sunday, As you might have noticed im buying lots of interior parts but no body parts, this is purely because i can put everything into the new shell in october.
Thanks, Joe
