Default Cat C Salvage Focus estate. Slammed on 16X8 Comp TH's

Reason for posting this number:-

1. Aint that many new threads going on over winter ( so will keep the board interesting )

2. Theres always threads on here regarding cat c, d, vic checks etc

So hoping this will help some people more than anything, maybe help people understand.

(I'll appoligise now for the phone pics.)

Towards the end of last year I've ended up repairing a Cat C written off S reg 1900td 306 for my brother ( his 2nd car, needed something bigger but cheap )
This was bought, repaired, mot'ed, taxed, vic checked for around the £450 quid mark, its not mint but very presentable and a cheap 306 diesel imo.

Since then I've just been browsing car transplants website window shopping really, and I noticed this Focus the week before xmas!!!

Light front damage, 2002 1600 petrol Ford Focus cl estate. 16700 miles on the clock.
Alloys, e/w, e/m, r/c/l, a/c, h/f/s.

Abit grubby inside but now't a clean wouldn't sort

So, first off I got shopping on ebay for panels, the xmas wish list was:-

X 2 headlights

a grill

bonnet

front bumper

slam panel

a front cross member ( although the original was still useable )

I got on ebay and sourced all these parts plus a pair of wings and a radiator. ( No sat in the garden for spares because they wouldn't split )

Quick road trip in the snow 4 days after buying the focus I was off up to oldham to a rough looking scrap yard.
We filled my dad's disco with a Focus front end, although a few parts were damaged and we waited round for 1 1/2 hours while they messed about finding replacements.
Ebay buy it now £250 quid, not happy with the parts and abit pee'd off about being messed about price £140 quid.

Back home its now the week leading upto xmas and im on nights all week 1930-0615. Its cold, snowing, windy.
So with the road trip being done on the monday, tuesday was charge the batteries up time.
I did however get 5 mins to ring up a good mate Gary Moulson @ Keith Michaels insurance to sort some rapid cover out on it if it was to make its MOT id pre booked for the friday fingers crossed. ( Cheers again Gaz )
Wednesday morning when I finished work I dismantled the Focus under my carport. Around 0730 it looked like this

Name: 9beff465.jpg
Views: 478
Size: 139.2 KB

All panelled up it now looks like this

Name: 97ce8375.jpg
Views: 514
Size: 162.7 KB

So Friday morning 23rd dec it went in for a 0900 MOT.
It flew through so then I was straight online to book its Vic check via DVLA website for a appointment at our local ( Wrexham ) Vic check station.
Because of xmas this has taken alittle longer than normal but it went in on the 6th Jan at 0800 and was all done with a pass certificate by 0830.
I then drove straight to Chester to our local DVLA office to tax it, as I had no doc's you have to fill in a V5 application ( no fee for this if the car is a Cat C write off )
And a road tax application
Handed over the fee and its now all 100 % legal and useable, all it now requires is alittle paint on the replacement panels and while at it sort a few other marks out around the body while its in.

I've even smoked the headlights while they were out

Name: ca2f0c6f.jpg
Views: 490

Fitted clear side repeaters, silver bulbs, led bulbs etc.

So now with a weeks use and over 400 miles added to the clocks it now stands me unpainted around the £850 quid mark.
Which for such a low mileage car I don't think is bad.
Its taken a few hours to sort it, but if you buy the right car and check it all over, and buy everything for peanuts I think buying a damaged car can be worth it.

Don't think it'll look too bad, i'd just like to upgrade the Ice then and use it. I also need to source the right upper grill for a facelifted MK1 focus. What you think?

Just to clear any questions up. . .

I repaired the car to a road worthy condition

Insured it

Drove it to and from its MOT ( legal if pre booked taxed or not )

Vic checked it ( again legally can be driven when pre booked taxed or not aslong as Mot'ed )

Tax'ed it at local DVLA due to having no documents as its Cat C, did that journey on the way home from the VIC check

Hope this helps

Not done it to make money, never wanted a Focus estate eva.
Its just at the right money, right time, right car it has to be done
Touch wood it seems a belting low mileage car for the money, lovely spec too

I think you just have to watch what you buy as sometimes they arn't that cheap for a cat c, d.

Looks very tidy mate! Amazed about the low mileage too, has it been parked up for years or just never really been anywhere?

Wheels suit it, will look good lowered a bit on them.

Genuine facelift grill has arrived today, another eBay buy at £30 quid.
Also bought the lowest springs available for a estate.
55mm drop on the front.
40mm drop on the rear.
They may have to be modded yet, will see how it sits.
Should be painted within the next couple of weeks.

It's dropped. Not mega dropped but looks lovely and still drives well.
Only chopped a coil off the rears.
So would presume it's dropped 55mm all round.

Even fitted my Cheshire Rsoc stickers.

Love it. Looking forward to seeing it painted.
Gonna tint the tailgate window and mod the rear lights. Add some new ice and it's about done.
