My ford puma ''hot ford'' race car *update 10/1/12*
hi guys.
thought id put a little thread up about my ford puma race car , it will be raced on short circuit ovals , the formula is called ''hot fords'',
which is any fwd ford but they must run the 1.6cvh carb engine, no injection allowed and must remain standard(ish)
anyway here are some pics
the strip down
the cage ( i could have had more bars but we need to keep the weight down, so the cage has been built to minimum requirements
engine bay in primer

Mate of mine races hot fords at buxton raceway
Things you need to have on that engine
Siera rocker cover stops you blowing your oil cap off
Square top carb
Xr3 inlet manifold
Xr3 exhaust manifold
Think xr3 downpipe to
Then a decent length of pipe and box to get good back preassure.
Also dont know if you can with hot fords down there??? lsd box or diesel box.....
As for wheels 14 inch to get the car reving out of the corners
Or 15inch if your getting valve bounce near the end of the straight with 14s
Also nearside front negative camber something like 6 degrees
offside front needs positive camber like 1-2 degrees
Also move wheel nearside front wheel forward an inch OR offside back an inch this will make the car turn in better
Tracking wants to be tracked out 3 mm aswell.
also when mounting the cvh try and get the engine far back as you can,and Near to the offside as poss which will put the weight on the wheel that will want to spin up when leaving the corner
Want anymore advice drop me a pm

Not sure if you can run toyo t1 r thats what i run and most of the hot ford lads,
I run 185 50 14 which suits my setup well (50 profile will be the min you can run)
you could run 55 or 60 so it can stretch its legs without over reving
Toyos are great cost about 45 a tyre but great in dry i use scrubbed ones in dry and new ish for wet

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Looks good
Always wondered why short circuit racers use those daft seats why not use a proper circuit seat can only be a tiny difference in weight will make no difference to performance but will make a huge difference to your back when you get shoved into the wall.

right an update, ive never painted a car before in my life, so was a bit nervous but as its a oval track car i decided to have a bash , and tbh ive very pleased with the outcome, i wanted something bright that would stand out so i went for signal yellow
anyway here are the pics ( there is lots lol)
for those of you that are not clued up on short circuit oval racing , the white roof is not something ive done though choice,
you have to start in graded order and this is done by roof colour,
white being the beginners section, then up to yellow, on to blue, then red , and finally superstar (gold/silver)
