nice work. Iv burned out two drills doing my mk1 but it was worth it just to do as much of the work myself as I could.

Cheers for the advice mate, much appreciated. I haven't dropped the engine in yet to have a look, but I imagine it will be tight. The one thing I don't like about the engine is the big rusty cast manifold.
I'm planning to get a Peter G one at some point and fit an External Wastegate, but I've got other expensive things I need to buy first

I love your old Mexico, I've only seen it in the flesh with the Millington engine since you sold it, it's a great car!
And yeah I've already got an Atlas, but I was going to speak to Fostek about the shafts and LSD.

Thanks everyone else for the comments. I haven't posted in a while since I've been having trouble getting my pics off my Iphone. But I'll upload them tonight.

Since I last posted we've got the rear all bulkhead done, pretty much ready for primer. Made and welded in the rear crossmember, and been prepping up a lot of the shell ready for primer. It's still a long way away, but the next main job is the rollcage then most of the welding is done.

Looking at getting the car done for June, July sort of time I would imagine.

Thought it was about time I posted some pictures. Since I last posted, we've done half the roll cage as well now. And quite a lot of prep work.
Most of the welding is now done on the car, it's just the roll cage, dash needs to be welded in, the front welded up, the Watts linkage brackets, and a few other little bits.

I've bought quite a lot of parts in the past few weeks, ready for when it's in paint. We're still a fair way away from paint though

Anyways..

Half the roll cage tacked up. ^

I was originally going to weld the cage in. However I want the interior and roll cage perfect, and I don't think its achievable with it welded in.
So we're making the cage in a couple of pieces, and bolting it together. That way the cage can be welded up nicely outside the car, sandblasted, prepped and painted properly, then fitted. The main part pictured above is all one piece.

I'll probably get some more pictures up at the weekend. Should hopefully finish the roll cage and weld the dash in by Saturday.

Bout time for an update, I haven't bothered in a while as I've been quite busy. The car has got a hell of a lot further since my last post. Practically all the welding is done now, most of the prep work, so we are not TOO far away from primer. But still far enough..

We started making the front part of the cage..

We decided to use 2" steel piping, slightly heavier than usual, as I think it looks better. However the front just didn't look right, so we cut it out along with the mounts, and decided to go with just the rear cage. Should still give more than enough support, it's not a track car.

Made the front seat mount brackets..

Name: IMG_9062.jpg
Views: 725

Started welding up the front end. I have to totally take back what I said about the front reproduction wings being good. They are absolute shite, fit awful, nothing lines up correctly an we've had to seriously modify them to make them right.

Welded on the drip rails.

One thing I hate on Mk1's is the rear grille's, you can't get in there to tidy them up, an they are always full of shit and overspray, so we cut mine out to get the inside all clean and tidy.

Well worth the extra effort to be honest. They were painted the color of the car before we welded the grille's back up.

I'm currently running the 2WD manifold on my Cossie engine, but the standard cast manifold purely let's it down, as it just rusts. So I decided to get mine Thermal Sprayed in Copper. Did think about doing it in Aluminium, but obviously it has a much lower melting point, an would probably burn off at high temperature.

Still need to get them polished. If they look shit, then I'll strip it back again. I plan to get a custom stainless one made very soon anyways, but I think this will look much more improved.

I've been buying quite a few new bits lately as well, I'll post some more pictures as soon as they upload.

Thanks mate, and nah they have no purpose, they just collect water and it runs down the boot channel. I did think about welding them up, but I want the car to look somewhat original from the outside.

Anyways, been getting quite a few bits lately,

Name: IMG_9143.jpg
Views: 746
Size: 46.7 KB

Brand new Recaro Pole Positions. 7kg a side. I've also got the Aluminium side mounts which are 1.1kg. And the Recaro Runners.

Name: IMG_9202.jpg
Views: 728
Size: 54.7 KB

Watts Linkage Kit, Strut Brace, New Cosworth Gaiter, bumper mounts etc.

Name: IMG_9220.jpg
Views: 744
Size: 52.7 KB
Name: IMG_9221.jpg
Views: 722

New rear light chromes, as you can see, much better than my old tatty ones.

Name: IMG_9226.jpg
Views: 770
Size: 39.3 KB

New Grille from GRP4 Fabrications. Not sure just yet wether I'm using it though, it wasn't quite as good as I was expecting.

I've also got a new Airtec Intercooler/Radiator, thanks to Alan at Airtec. New dash top, all new seals , rubbers, new handbrake, etc. Need to get my wheel bolts and all handles re-chromed this week. And get all my bolts re-plated.

Ordering my Gaz Gold coilovers tomorrow along with Eccentric top mounts. And need to order the Smiths Flight gauges. Still need literally hundreds of parts

I said from the start of the build, I'm only going to fit brand new or reconditioned parts, and I stand by my word obviously within reason, some parts are just not available new. But this is an all out show car, no expense will be spared.

Cheers for the replies people, much appreciated.

And yeah Auld, it does.

As you can see, we made slightly raised triangle platforms at the front, so the cage just about clears the inner sills. The cage is out the car now until the inside is painted.

This week we also got the engine and gearbox in, an modified the tunnel where the gear selector comes out..

Name: IMG_9216.jpg
Views: 739
Size: 69.9 KB

We also cut and modified the World Cup crossmember and the mounts to get the engine to fit perfectly. I'll get some more pics up this week.

Now we are currently wet flatting the whole car thoroughly, an checking for any small defects or faults that need improving.

Should be in paint by the weekend with any luck.

We've been counting from the start the hours gone into this car, and its over 1500 hours in total, and we still have a lot to do. Should be all worth it when the car is done though.

I've also been buying a lot of parts lately for when its done, picked these up last week

Gaz Gold coilovers with 13" rears and the Eccentric Top Mounts, really pleased with them.

This is some of the other parts I've got ready for the car as well. A lot of it is in boxes though, I've got most of the parts to complete the car. And all the aftermarket stuff is brand new.

Well the car was just about in paint when I last posted, but I couldn't upload any pics because it was on the unveiling at Classic Ford yesterday.

We had been working solid on the car 18+ hour days to get it ready for the show in time. The shell was painted only last tuesday, we got it off the spit wednesday, and fitted most of the car up in 3-4 days, all thanks to a fair few people helping us out.

The outside of the car was painted in Porsche Gruenoliv Pearl, here are some pics:

It's a bit of an unusual color, especially for a Classic Ford, but that's the whole image I was going for with the car.

I've fitted 15" BBS RS's which aren't really a Ford thing, but I think they work well. The wheels were re-drilled an all the bolts re-chromed etc.

Got a local trimmer to come an do the carpet at our place, its come out well enough for the show but is only temporary. I'm getting a custom carpet made very soon. The trimmer's are 50 miles away an needed the car 2 days, so it just wasn't an option last week.
All the door cards were trimmed in Alcantara, as well as the Dash top and steering column.

Cam Cover painted and fitted, as well as the strut brace etc. The slam panel we had to extend and modify to get the rad in and out, an was only painted saturday morning, so we didn't have a chance to polish it.

Interior, excuse the shitty gearknob, I tried getting a 2WD Sierra one but ran out of time, so I borrowed a Ford one off a mate's KA, its only temporary!! The dash pod came loose as well, but luckily wasn't too noticeable.

Engine Bay.

The car got a great response, much better than I was expecting, which was good! The car is by no means done yet, but I think we done well considering we only painted it a week ago and had 4 days to fit it together!

I'd like to get the car driving and all done by Ford Fair, but we'll see how it goes. The most important things to get done at the moment are getting the Rear Axle Rebuilt, all running gear together with the engine running, have a carpet made, a bespoke stainless manifold, an a few other bits. The steering column needs adjusting as well, as its slightly offset.

I'll get some better pics up soon as I can.

Cheers Simon, them pics are pretty shite though, just taken on my iPhone! Won't be long till the wheels are wider, an it will be much lower too bad we didn't have time Sunday morning to drop the front again, looked much better.

Here's another pic of the interior with my Schroth Harness's:
