RWD Mk3 escort rally car
hi all.... been on here a while but never really had much to do with the forum. a mate of mine dan (wonger) has told me to put a few pictures up of what im doing in my spare time.
i recenlty bought myself a rwd mk3 escort for road rally's. now it has come to the end of the season iv started to pull things apart and tidy it up. heres a breif spec and description as to whats going on...
Titan Big tunnel shell
2L Pinto - big valve head, ported polished, piper cam
Tranx 5 Speed SCCR gearbox
Atlas axle - ZF Diff
World cup X-member
Fully turreted - Bilstein and gaz coilovers
I bought it a few months back and have done a couple of events but not had much luck... im yet to get a finish in it!
Now a bit of a strip down and general tidy up. Engine and gearbox have gone away to be rebuilt, looking into the suspension setup (spring rates ect) weld a few little bits up and replate the strut tops, fit steel bonnet and boot on hinges, tidy up inside
Il keep updating with the progress.

It was a brand new shell when converted, kev, and it used all the bits off a mk1 mexico that had been crashed or rotted away, i can't remember which.
Basically, the original owner rallied a mk1 mex, it was fooked, wanted to reshell it, and decided a brand new shell from ford was the best option, because all the bits off the mex went onto this, it got the mex ID too.
Thats as far as i understand it anyway, sure Lee will clear it up if i just made all that up.

cheers mate... yea good question. tbh i dont really know the legal side of it. i dare say because it was a brand new shell and the mk1 was detroyed thats how its been passed. there are a few others around. it was the tax exempt that twisted my arm nothing worse than paying 12months tax on a toy that you use for no more than 1000 miles a year yea dans got it spot on.

Me and Lee have had a busy, not very constructive day.
Somehow Lee has decided i am a bodywork master, this i am not.
i'm sure he's got some pics, but he's slow!
The back end was tatty, full of filler and looking very rough, so a quick tidy up needed, remember its a competition car, not a show car! It's only going to get bent again very soon!
So i got the angle grinder with some kind of paint removing thingy on it
then got to work with the filler.........!
Quick coat of stone chip
Was happyish with that, until i came back 5 mins later to found it had reacted like hell with something?!
so started again.
Lee was welding a plate onto a tatty repair that had been done before
I took the back down to metal, was alot of filler in it, im not too sure why, its not that bent!
By this point i was bored of painting, so let the novice have a go
Back end all in stone chip

not a huge amount getting done atm. we have had to give in to the arch as it keeps reacting... so possibly having the whole thing resprayed, which was the original plan but time and money isnt on our side at the moment. we have an entry in on the powys lanes in about 4 weeks.
tonight i started to make and fit corsa electric steering... pretty much got the top half done tonight...

Looking good.
Pretty sure they need wiring in direct to battery with a relay to switch over, look at the gauge of the wire going to motor
Draw alot of current don't they these?
Bigger output alt is required on some cars.
