moonstone 2wd sapphire much needed restoration
after 17 months of ownership its about time i gave her a bit of tlc!
i brought the car off ebay with 12 mths mot and on the surface it looked a nice clean car running stage 3 with rs500 intercooler, dark greens, 3 bar map and a hybrid turbo (to be identified!)
i drove it for the full 12 mths planning a restoration before re mot
during the 12mts it managed to pull the threads out of the cambelt tensioner out and therefore loosing its cambelt! result was a snapped exhaust cam and 16 bent valves!
i removed the head had 16 new sodium filled valves new guides and stem seals installed and skimmed it for good measure. also turns out it had been ported
a cometic multi layer gasket and arp stud and nut fitted to future proof it
anyway mot ran out and it has been sat down the side of my house for 6 mths quietly gathering dust and rust waiting on funds and the time i need to do it!
i have started to strip the underseal and working in patches acid etch prime as i go along, must admit its a fair state under there lots of bodge repairs using mastic to podge holes up! many would say reshell it!
here is a few pics of the rust holes found thus far!
drivers foot well
drivers side sill !
back end with bumper removed
drivers seat mount!
and a happier looking work in progress shot
