Well I'm sure some of you will have read or answered some of my random zetec conversion questions so thought I'd let you see what all the fuss is about.
The car as I bought it

1987 "d" 1.6 mfi xr3i. Rs turbo bonnet and alloys, stainless straight through exhaust, otherwise standard.

The original plan was a cvh turbo conversion but it seems a bit dated now and instead went for:

The reliabilaty was the biggest factor and I'd like to be able to use it when I want and not worry about expensive turbo rebuilds!! That's not to say a zetec turbo is out of the question but money is about to get tighter as my girlfriend is due to give birth in 2 weeks!!!

Progress has been hampered slightly my old garage was broken into and a load of stuff taken inc full wiring loom out of this car! But life goes on so some pics of work carried out so far:
Apparently the spot they all go in right in corner where front slam panel meets inner wing

Drivers door outer cill and on the inside of cill too come away

Both treated with hammerite no1 rust beater.... still to cut back a bit and weld up
Front valance smoothed and all holes in engine bay filled I'l re do them if needed in a neater space want all the car to be smooth and tidy included hidden loom

Valance also treated with the rust beater it's high build so it filled any inperfections I'd missed with filler

Bonnet vent smoothed

and badge filled and ready for primer

And after a rub down with some de-greaser

The guy I bought it from said it was ace and after a good poke around underneath it really does seem it! The battery tray has been done at some point thats covered in sealer/waxoyl. Underneath wise it's just hopefully a case of strip off the sealer rub it down and re-seal and repaint.
Could be a long project still got a bit to do to get it stripped down and still a bit of a shopping list but it should keep me busy and get me out of house when baby starts screaming!!
Advice comments and ideas welcome guys cheers

Zetec scrapped... Rs turbo engine equired!!

Blown headgasket.. But lets face it who would buy an rs engine and drop it straight in?? I kno i would always strip it down check and replace so its no bother to me...
Least i know whats been done and to what standard..
Samco top hose and bailey dump valve

Charge pipe, arb clamps, filter clamp all primed drying in my boiler cupboard!!

Inlet manifold cleaned up well,

was going to polish it up but think i'l have a painted engine, had a polished bay before and had a nightmare keeping on top of it.. Unsure of crinkle paint or just smooth paint??? Might go smooth silver and try keep it as standard looking as possible
Gearbox, selector, mounts and cradle all silver

Front bumper was just about finished, now gotta modify to fit intercooler and 2 rad fans!!! It never ends

Next up is to weld a small patch in floor (rear footwell) and then get on with painting interior and engine bay.. Its still on a trolley in garage so cnt get any decent pics but once its back on its own wheels itl get wheeled out for a wash down
