Great stuff i bet you were over the moon when you could have the car. My 1st car was a marina and i had to give my old man 200 bucks for it. Stick to it it will be worth it in the end.

Right, another update. This past few weeks i have been sandblasting everything i can get my hands on. I first started on the rest of the beam, then the trailing arm, then the diff mount, then a few odd bolts. Next my dad taught me how to drift the bolts out of the hubs, so i did that, and sandblasted both hubs. Most stuff has been primed and i have a few things left to paint. Next week i can finish everything paint wise, fit new bearings, get my new bushes in then refit it all, YIPPEE! then the most dreaded job of all, the rear quarters. Anyway, now for pictures

From memory, i think i did the moonbeam. But i was eight. When the turbocharged cars were still permitted, so all the scoobys, evos and cosworths were gunning it!

Default Road rally sierra, resto time update 17/12/11

Right, over the past 3 weeks my camera died, the internet was on and off when it felt like it, but progress has been made. First i finished everything off painting wise. Then the diff was coated in special metals primer and sprayed silver along with the shaft ends. Then my dad showed me how to fit bearings so i did the second one after a lesson. Tomorrow im fitting it back up together but heres for some pics.

Well, todays update is the grand total of nothing, i ground down some welds and lubricated all the nuts. But the problem is that the polyurathane bush isnt compressing enough. anyone know how to get the bush to compress and get the thing bolted up? jack it up to compress it?

@ Glenn, yeah, it has led a hard life being beaten up on tracks, but once its restored its being retired from its rally life and being used as a summer toy, i might save up for a proton satria if i do some rallying.

I might update mid week because im up here for three days to work on the car so i might have the rear end back together by then.

cheers for looking, nathan

Right, a nice big update for y'all. Afew weekends ago i got the rear end all back on and back together, rolled it outside and started stripping it, i found a shit load of rot and loads of fibreglass resin, but i have prettymuch cleared the shell of all the interior i am going to customize over the next couple of weeks. And so i got the brakes and the wiring out. Then today we went to a scrapyard to get some ford ka drums and a handbrake lever. Were making a jig, but it might take longer as the dad took a bit of his leg out with a 9 inch grinder. Anyway pics

OMG I love road rallying, so a thread like this is well up my street. Doing a great job too, you should come and check out some of the events in west wales (I'm based on good old map 146), there must be about 12 events real close to me each year. I look foward to updates.

well another update. I have finally stripped everything out of the interior, and i am now preparing it for spinning over. i had a look at where it would mount and the front crossmember was crumbling away so after a few hours with the grinder i have finally peeled it away and it is now binned. Now i need to clean it up at the front, weld any patches, sand blast it, etch and prime it and weld up the new cross member. next few months and the welding and rust removal will be under way. YIPPEE

anyway, pics:-

Update, on the jig and the weldings on. Firstly, i welded patches at the front of the rails, then mounted the crossmember. Then i welded the crossmember on. Its solid, but dad said it was on the wrong settings. DOH. i will re bead it when its upside down. Then i stripped the doors off, and removed all the other shiz, then, we got it into position, mounted it, and dropped the front suspension off. Now its all welding from here on, but im gonna persevere. pics now

no, i think the old girl can retire early, too much work gonna go into it to rag it about on rallys, and the fact i dont want to crash it, way to sentimental. but im slowly convincing my dad to get a corsa or rover 25 to rally
