My 1.8 ZVH conversion thread (ENGINE BAY PAINTED)
Hi guys thought i would start a thread on my Fiesta RS turbos engine conversion me and my mate Rich are carrying out.
Its the first time i have done anything like this, and is a learning curve so if anyone has any pointers along the way please feel free to share them.
I dont drive the car over winter so knew i would be shoving it in the garage to go for abit more power and by changing to zetec hopefully keeping reliability too
This was me a mile from my mums garage to rip the engine out:
Gearbox royally shit the bed, so had to get the old girl recovered there as she wouldnt select any gear or come out of gear, even had to get my mate Rich to tow her off the recovery truck
Spec will be:
1.8 zetec bottom end
CVH head
Series 2 LSD gearbox (probably a cts stage 1)
Kent cvh35 highlift cam and pulley
195 chip
walbro fuel pump
stage 2 T3 with .63 housing
stage 2 FMIC
Mongoose full stainless
Green cone filter
Sooooo ripped the old tired cvh out:
And went and picked up a 1.8 zetec lump
After checking the engine was healthy took it to my father-in-laws engineering shop and he drilled and tapped the oil breather and oil return for the turbo:
Then he gave the head a light skim and we cleaned it all up:
(Cheers Jimmer!)
After that we have ground the inlet valves back in after cleaning them up, all in good condition apart from the exhaust valves which were badly pitted so scrapped them and will order some more from burton power,
So i lapped some brand new exhaust valves in:
Next was to enlarge the water pump hole and fit the conversion plate needed to use the cvh waterpump which to be honest was easier then it looks as the blacktop zetecs waterpump hole is tiny! and requires ALOT of enlarging!.
The next stage was to modify the sump as the starter sits on the rear of the engine but i need it to sit on the front as im using the series 2 LSD gearbox, again this is where the blacktop zetec sump differs to the silvertop one, as the blacktop sump is 2 piece and is a different shape to the silvertop sump so we just cut off 3 pieces off the sump untill it was the same shape as the silvertop
Next we decided to prep the block and head and give it a lick of paint which came out really well,
We then started to weld all the unused holes up in the bay, as we will be smoothing them and painting the engine bay whilst the engines out:
well thats as far as i have got so far but will keep the updates coming.....

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Hi mate
I think we met at the Griffin Pub a while back was building the mrs' FRST at the time. Shouldnt you be using a 1.8 sump on this? I have 2.1 zvh and the sump looks totally different on mine.

You have a silvertop engine by the sound of it where the oil filter comes of the oil pump im using a blacktop where it has the oil filter on the block like an RST and a 2 piece sump instead of 1 piece, it looks odd in the pics as i dont have the last piece of the sump fitted yet.

UPDATE:
Sent the car to my painter to get a lick of paint after we smoothed the holes, and as usual he done a great job!.
Also got him to paint some engine parts, engine is nearly finished too.....not long now!
Here she is after i dropped her off there looking abit sorry for herself lol!:
A little coat of primer later:
And finally:
Sorry about the quality the photos were taken on my iphone.
Engine isnt far off now either just a few bits like trying to sort a decent gearbox and we are winning
Had all the engine bits done too:
Had abit of green flake threw in to go with the green strips (only on the rocker cover)
Will update again in a few days

looking really good mate. yes the mrs is blonde and was probs on her way over too mine.
i would of recommended to relocate the battery as it does clean the bay up and gets easier access to fuel filter, lines and also gearbox.
ps its josh using my mrs' account lol
