Ha ha! Worth a go, I'll give you that..
Might be looking for a touch more - possibly!
Funny thing is I wrote the ad for it today; full hit, all links to pics etc.
Bottled it. Didn't post it.
Gonna be a tough one to let it go. Engine sale possibly looking more likely, but we'll see.
As Glenn just said Escort project will be interesting, and that's why I'm in this dilemma. It's good to hear folks perspective on it, as I know a lot of you have been in this sort of position before. I was amazed the other day when the fella broke his FoCos that he'd been putting together. Must have been a hell of a wrench to do that. I don't want to make the wrong decision after all.
My mate PaulRS1700T reckons making a start on the Escort would be the way to go and see how it develops. Think this could be the way; Won't cost much to get it back, blast it, get some primer on and put it on axle stands and have a think. If I get the Sierra into safe storage over the winter then I only need to keep myself in sandpaper and ideas over the winter to see how I go with it in the garage.
Have to admit bought a big wing baffled & gated 2WD sump today. (My YB has 4x4 sump.) I have group A engine mounts, could practically pop it straight in. See how it sits. Have enough spare parts, so If I can sort the rear axle or beam/diff out then it would get me a long way down the road. The crunch will come if i decide to rob the Sierra of it's Tremec box, as I'd end up with two cars I couldn't drive! But at least I won't have sold it and come to regret it (my main fear).
All of the above gives me a little buffer, and I won't need to dig too deep in my pockets initially. Hopefully I can get far enough down the road with the Escort and if I need to make a call I'll be in a better position to do it. A small lottery win would help enormously!
James, I can see where you're coming from. Thanks for posting. Gonna see if I can get into the next sprint at Curborough with the Sierra and give it bloody good blast and see how I feel. Making a start on the Escort won't cost me initially; and gives me a bit more time with the Sierra before I would need to find storage for it .
Thanks to you all for advice and input - much appreciated!
Cheers

Well Curborough has been and gone.
Was quite an experience
Everything and everyone survived intact with the exception of my carbon fibre splitter (RIP) when some over enthusiastic driving involved a quick visit to the grass
Still can't quite wrap my head around the power output, but most of all the prodigious torque at anything over idle! I even spun on my sighting lap giving it too much beans! (cue my embarrassment)
Once I reigned myself in and re-calibrated my right foot somewhat I had an enjoyable day of it. Had a couple more moments a long the way just when I thought I'd cracked it. Think I have some way to go before Ari Vatenen starts looking over his shoulder!
Had finally sorted the little prop rubbing by using some spacers on the diff mount, and everything ran well. Car sounded epic and didn't miss a beat. A fella with an LS engined TVR complimented how sweet it sounded compared to his
At the end of it all though I have finally decided to move on, and offer it up for sale. In some way finally using it properly last week has cemented my desire to move on. Perhaps for me the fun is in the tinkering and research and pulling it together. Even though I recognised the limit of my abilities and available time and used the experts where appropriate (!) it's been an enjoyable process.
Giving it a weekend wash and brush up today to do new photos for the ad. still has me wondering if I'm doing the right thing. It's such a great bit of kit, but I'll look forward to the next project and hopefully won't regret it!!!!
Thanks for your comments and help along the way. It's been fun

Well, the Sierra is now with it's new owner having been collected last week.
Was sad to see it go, but it's gone to a good home
I'm looking for a cheap, enjoyable/trackable/sprintable car next, and use what's left over to pay for some house renovation work. If there's one thing more expensive than cars it's bloody houses! Short of winning the lottery I can't see a way back into 3dr ownership again as the value of them is only going one way and pretty fast, but it was good while it lasted.
If you've got a project yourself on the go at the moment, best of luck with it. It's not easy seeing it through but the results are always worth it!

Hi Mark,
Yes possibly. No rush though, that'll be a 20yr project by the time I'm done I reckon!
Gonna move it up from my brother's place soon, blast it, prime it and store it until I'm ready.
I've got such limited time coming up over the next year (with work) that on the odd day I have spare I'd rather have something cheap & cheerful ready to drive, than be building. A lot of money and energy went in to the Sierra so I need to chill for a bit!
Of course if any tasty bits for the Escort pop up in the meantime I can always collect & store them.
Cheers

Each time my old car gets sold it seems like barely any time in the previous owner's hands and £2k gets added to price lol. Now it's sporting an RS500 style coachline and the speedo needle has dropped off!
