Default 1967 Jaguar 420 Restoration

Hi all,
I imported and restored a Sapphire Cosworth here in Canada a few years ago and posted here, I love this group!

https://passionford.com/forum/restor...-cosworth.html

I have now come across a 1967 Jaguar 420 with some friends, left hand drive, it had been sitting in a garage for the past 33 years (since 1978).

Very Very good condition.

Restoration time on this, seems to be in too good a shape to pass up.

Would it be approriate for me to post and and ask questions on this Ford Group, cuz you guys rock, and are mostly in Europe, so I'm sure seen/restored more of these than us?

The Jag forums called jcna.com and britishcarformus.com do not have the same traffic as here.

Here's a few pictures to whet your appitite.

Please let me know it is ok to Post pics and process and as questions, or if you can, direct me to a better place?

Thanks.
.Steven

Hi Guys,
Great thanks for the support!!! So here we go.

This is how we found her. Being pulled out of the garage and taken to its' new home at my pals place.

Here After first wash and looking around.

She has not been start in zee vile. She was driven into the garage and battery removed and parked for 33+ years.

OK. This car cost us $500 Cdn, $300 for the tow, then about $1200 for the parts for the projects below.below.

I want to Mention SNG Barratt in the USA, exceptional dealer in Jag parts.

It's a 4.2 Litre.

Plan is/was:
-Take it mostly apart, clean it up and replace all rubbers and hoses.
-Brake Rebuild on calipers and Master Cylinder & Brake Servo.
-Replace brake pads.
-Replace all Tires.
-Rebuild Dual SU Carbs new jets.
-Flush everything and replace fluids.
-Replace all Ignition replacables
-Replace all the easy seals and gaskets
-New vacuum system/resevior tank
-Battery replace

We were hoping to get this running pretty inexpensively.
The above theoritically should be it right?
BUT. The engine will not turn by hand!!! or Starter (we tried)!

We have a breaker bar and socket on the Crankshaft pully nut, but are afraid to torque it too much (we are doing about 120ft/lbs I estimate). We can feel the nut turning a little, but no movement on the Crank.

Figuring that the rings are siezed in the cylinders, we tried penetrating fluids over the course of two months like Marvel Mystry oil, seizedengine.com and other sh!t to see if we can lube the cyliders from above to help it move just a crack. Then we'd be home free.
Otherwise what, we take the head off, pull the block out, remove the oil pan and loosen and bang the sh!t out of everthing to break her free? Tell me there is an easier way?

How much torque can be applied to that cranksaft pully nut? I don't want to bend or strip anything with too much force.

This sucker right here. Not much in this Manual. I've taken this hollow bolt off and looked at it. I think I'll just end up stripping it. I believe the Crank damper it held on by a collet washer.

Any comments or guidance would be appriciated.
Cheers,
.Steven

old trick is to use full fat coca cola into the bore and let it sit a few days, works wonders

nice find. as above coca cola or vinegar down the plug hole, leave for a couple of days then try again, if it free's off, get some oil down the bores and turn it by hand a few times, then disconnect plug leads and crank it till oil light goes out and then fire it up properley!

What a beautifull car, love to have that when my numbers come up

to un-sieze the engine try adding 2litres of engine oil in a pan and bring gently to the boil, then once at very gentle boil remove and slowly pour it through the engine while a friend try's to turn her over off the crank..the heat might just help expand the metals...

Was done by a chap on a restoration program i watched a few years back on tv, have done it myself once on a crossflow and by heck it worked, long chalk as has been stood for so long but wotcha gotta loose as it will probs need a refresh anyway...

PLEASE post more pics up op, its such a treat to see an old skool jag nowadays

Great find and overall cracking condition , bore wise id just put diesel down the bores ans wait a few days before trying to turn it over once it moves just go back and forth until you can do the complete four stroke cycle.

Then hook up a good battery with booster with the plugs out and see what it does and go from there, the diesel will end up in the sump so eaither change the oil before or both.

Good luck.
