This week I av been mostly!

De-rusting parts with apple cider vinegar, all I can say is wow just leave them soaking for a couple of days and wire brushing couple of times and hay presto the rust has gone, but don't rinse them with water because you will get flash rust all I done was clean them with brake cleaner afterwards,

I just thought I would share it with you guy's

It really does give good results dont it? ive currently got a load of bolts off mine soaking away :top:

RichieST 02-07-2011 08:18 PM

I've done it before it works well, cheap vinegar works well too!

I was told about it ages ago but thought nothing of it, you just need to be careful if soaking parts with polished surfaces like hub flanges etc as it will dull them and take the shine off the areas that aren't rusty but yes I couldn't believe the results you end up with it just dissolves the rust like magic with very little effort.

Were did you guy's get yours from I can only seem to find it in morrisons but it is 97p for a 500ml bottle?

RichieST 02-07-2011 08:41 PM

I was told apple cider vinegar works best for some reason I think it has a higher acidity % or something, was it malt vinegar you used or the white clear stuff

RichieST 02-07-2011 08:53 PM

The malt vinegar I used, although the clear stuff might work just as well!

tosh 02-07-2011 09:00 PM

I will give it a try but I have still got 3 ltr's to use I think I went a bit ott on the amount I purchased.

I also had a look on you tube and you can use Molasses mixed with water what ever that is?
