Mercury Grey Saff Cossie Replica - New cossie engine going in!
#81
Well my mate has the keys and he will be taking into his workshop sometime today to change the front suspension, brakes, anti-roll bar and polybushes.
Better bloody drive nice after all that. Then im going to persuade him to book it in for the engine conversion as i have the use of another car so he can have it as long as he needs it - only downside is i have to help him to keep the costs down - not too bad i guess as i get some experience for when things go wrong lol

What is it about the engine conversion you can't do?? Or is it more of a no time due to work thing like myself
If you just fitted the YB and then payed him to sort the wiring, that would save you a decnt bit i'm sure?

We have agreed a rough price on his labour on the provisio i help him out so im happy with that. Also, working full time so don have as much time and really want this on the road before the proper cold weather settles in.
The only wiring i need doing is the engine loom which i have brand new from Omex already assembled.
My deadline of having it all done by end of august is long gone

Taking out the 8v from your Saff really is easier than you think, if you were a lot, lot closer I'd come and show you for a bacon buttie or two
Hope I haven't offended you, I am not, or nowhere near an actual mechanic like a lot of folks on these car forums, I can do a bit of basic removal and refitting, stuck a 24v in my Saff and a good mate of mine is wiring it in for me......I'm getting another 24v engine to rebuild for a laugh with my old man before he gets too old!!
Like you , it's his fault I've had Sierra's all the time.

im not offended mate.
Jim, we have tentatively said two weeks (hopefully) so hopefully my mid november it should be done - bar a final bit of mapping as budget may hold it back a little.
Its defo heading in the right direction. The car is currently in my mates workshop so i hopefully i can try out the brembos tonight on my way to east london

Quick update - I fixed my broken seat - this was the cause of it...
Fixed with this part on ebay for a bargain price..
i thought i may as well buy new wheels which will definately clear the brakes and also give more room for future brake upgrades - bit gutted as i really liked the car on the hocks but function over form wins
Which ones do you prefer...
All changed over
Still need some decent brackets being made for the calipers

im still secretly hoping to keep them if i can get decent brackets made, otherwise i will be forced to sell the FRS brake setup and go for APs or similar.
Although, I have seen some other calipers i quite like so the Brembo's may be going anyway lol

I love the Hockenheim's. Sorry.
When you want to sell them, give me a nod.
But the Compomotives do look very well on their the car still looks great.

Beef i hear ya and feel exactly the same way about the comps it was the one wheel i didnt want to get as every fucker has them.
I love the Hocks and am waiting to get the caliper brackets sorted properly and will then see how much room i have to play with.
I doubt i will sell either wheels as one set will end up on the 3dr.
Saying that, the comps dont look too bad on the car in the flesh - better than i thought they would.

Well my mate has the keys so I'm waitin for him to take it in and ft new studs and refit the brakes a bit better. I'm hoping he will have that done by today as the car is meant to be going to another mate Tomo eve for a bit of metal work.
Once that is done, it will go back to my over mate to do the conversion.
Possibly another couple of weeks I reckon

quick update - car is booked into my mate's workshop for some metal work, anyone remembers Tiny's saf with the V8 where my mate Chris done most of the fab work - i know my saf is in good hands.
Just hope i dont find much rust when i lift the carpet tonight. Once its done, then it will roll into my other mates workshop for the engine conversion and i can then finally stop spending on this lol.

That's due to the crap brackets that came with the brakes and the reason why I have gone through two sets of wheels and the car is not being driven until this is sorted.
On the plus side, someone off is helping with the brackets so hopefully I will get them soon.
My car is currently at my mate Chris' workshop as I stripped the inside out to find it needed a repair on the inner sill at te back on each side and also a small bit sorting on the tunnel where a screw goes - on the whole, the inside was very clean and solid. Didn't get pics as it was too dark and I was working via torch light lol. Chris has said he will ge plenty of pics
It's gonna be off the road for a month or two I reckon as the engine will be going in after the metal work is all sorted

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Whys it going off the road for a month or 2?
Sounds like a days worth of welding absoulte maximum.
Anyway, not a bad idea to have it off the road over the next two month. Road salt eats sierra's lol

It's off the road until chris can sort it, as he is doing it between jobs I think. Think he will prob have it for a couple of weeks and then I can rake it into geoffs workshop and do the engine conversion, which will prob take him a week as I don't think it will be as straight forward, especially if my brakes are anything to go by
I want it back ASAP but I'm nit going to rush it as want it done right first time

Right, time for another update. My mate chris cant do the work as he needs to finish a long term project off first, so i have enlisted the services of Deano from DC Motorsport who attends our Middx meets in a lovely cossied mk1 escort. He came highly recommended so i hope the car is in good hands
I have ordered the full outer sill for the passenger side from Hadrian Panels via Speedshack but the driver side was not available in this country so have had to source one from Germany
Been over at lunch to have a chat with Deano and check on progress, he has cut taken the skirts off to reveal sill covers that were previously fitted by someone and they fucking never bothered to paint any of it so it all looks shit brown and rusty good job i have said to cut all the old crap out and put new in.
Deano will hopefully get plenty of pics so i can update the thread.
On another note, my brake brackets arrived off a user on here so im hoping these will fit now.

cheers Steve, Deano has come recommended by fellow middx members so im happy
those shims defo work as ive seen pics of these fitted Ade500's 3dr and it makes the wheels sit spot on in the arches
cant wait.
My engine bits are being dropped off to my mate Geoff on Monday so he can start building it all up.
And to think, only a few days ago i was considering selling it all up and getting a modern bavarian express - luckily i have decided to stick with it.

Right, pop down to see the car the other day and took a few pics to update this thread.
As you can see, the sills were bodged on previously but its all getting cut out and replaced properly
On the whole the shell is very good apart from the sills and a small patch on the gearbox tunnel. Inner wings, boot floor, etc are all mint.
Hopefully dropping the engine parts over to my mate Geoff tonight so he can start building that up and get it ready to be dropped in
