Sierra Sapphire 1.8 LX Rebuild
 

Well not much of a rebuild but a fix and get it back on the road again :D. I have a G reg Sierra Sapphire 1.8 LX hasn't been used since Jan 1st 2006 so a good 5 years unused, wondering what I would need to do to get it sorted, oil seems fine, brakes are seized because the hand brakes been on but it did used to be on bricks, just due to my mums bf he placed the hand brake on which resulted in the brakes being seized. I want to get new fiilters, new battery and give the engine and good clean. What will the petrol be like after 5 years of not being used. Engines got 68000 miles on which is great.

I would definitely be draining the tank and putting some fresh juice in there.
As for the brakes the rear cylinders might need replacing after being seized all
that time and for all they cost its not to much hassle ;-)

Yh i've always loved this car, had it in the family 1 year after i was born :D So it's kind of special :). Yh was thinking of getting it drained, but would it be worth getting the oil drained and replaced as well.

Glad to hear another Sierra being rescued, get some piccys up! If it were me, i'd change, oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, HT leads, dizzy cap (don't bother with the rotor arm cos if you break the retaining clip you can't buy them at all). Drian the fuel and replace it. I'd also replace the discs and pads on the front and the shoes on the rear. Pad material goes hard after a while ansd they won't work as well, you're struggling with 240mm discs as it is, give yourself the best chance! Change the water as the anti freeze will be shagged by now. It's not just anti freeze anymore, there's corrosion inhibitors in it now as well. If you feel flush, I'd change the tyres too as the rubber would have degraded over the years. I really wouldn't 'just start' it, with knackered old oil and fuel you could end up giving yourself more problems. Also, when you change the oil, turn the engine over by hand first, just to get some oil round the bearings etc as it's probably all drained away. Good luck :top:

So ive got abit of work on my hands :) cheers for the infomation very much apprecated. Also how much would gettting new disks/pads for the front and possibly replacing the shagged drum breaks at the back?
EDIT : When i get it out in the sunshine (hopefully) on tuesday ill get some all round pictures, gonna get it towed out when i get the breaks inseized.
