Under side of tank, obviously been blue in a former life

Cleaned up, bared back, etched, stone guarded and satin blacked

I got a little bored of all the recent painting malarky so thought Id attack the back box to see if it would clean up

Still needs a good going over with the Autosol but looking better already

Back to painting again and now its the gearbox. Degreased and jet washed off the other day.

Box needs another coat of silver but ran out of time tonight so will get it done tomorrow.

More to come this week no doubt

Well had another day in the garage today and got a bit more done.......

Tank strap was the next thing to get the paint treatment.

Found this while I was raking around the garage too, I wondered where it had gone

Gave the dizzy a lick of paint too

Little bit of mechanical progress has been made too.

I dropped the bottom end off to my mate Gordon to get machined for its new pistons and while he had it he put the pistons on the rods with new little ends, fitted the rings and put them in the block. He put the crank in and a new oil pump too while he had it.

So it was time to try and remember where all these went

Got a few bits bolted on today too

More to come soon

I think he's from that way on somewhere.

My shell looks a bit shabby at the mo, 2 years sat on the drive has took its toll, so wont look owt special on the roads when it comes back out. Once the engine and under side is sorted then Ill start saving for a full shoot

Spent a bit more time in the garage today after having a little bit time away from the car cos I was getting sick of the sight of it all.

Anyway I went in the garage to have a look at what I broke in my old R1 and found this

Thats confirmed fucked so aborted any further fannying about with the bike engine.

After a bit of a tidy up I stood looking at the bottom end and thought "Ill just tinker"....

So I got the exhaust manifold out and checked it over to make sure it was ok and noticed it had a gasket in the middle that looked a bit wrong

Someone had put this gasket in

Where it was originally inted to live

Dug the head out from under my bed, where its lived for the past god knows how long. While it was on the bench I measured the ports, wether I done it right or not I dont know

Then I thought "fuck it Ill bolt a few bits on"

It almost looks like an engine now

Ignore the greens, they are just there to fill the gap till I order my new ones.

A soft wire wheel in the drill was used on the pipe, can see the marks from it but Im not bothered about a mirror finish. The box was just autosol on a rag till it buffed up nice.

Well, you know me fella

Bike died on the way home from work a couple month ago, with only a little spirited riding, and I only just got round to looking at the motor.

Looking at your hard work Ian reminds me of just a year ago when i was just doing mine, hard to believe its all gone now. Got to be honest i dont miss the agro and paranoia of the bloody things. When i was at ford fair sunday they brought it all back with smoke out the exhausts and pipes hitting the floor lol, but then the love may come back one day.

Lol I know what you mean mate, thats why its took me 2 year to get this far with it.

Im surprised you hadnt got sick of them sooner tbh cos you used to just get stuck in straight away whenever yours went wrong or needed something done. I always spit my dummy and just let it sit for a while till the urge comes back

What you got lined up next mate??

Well to be honest mate nothing at the mo, busy with work and that little kit car you saw me post about a while ago. That should keep my need for speed going for a while as were going to use it on some track days, so something to look forward to. Good luck with what your doing and what is the turbo etc your gonna run ?

Not aiming for any figure in particular mate. I always wanted a T4 powered Cossie cos I love lag then an almighty boot up the arse, lol. Its not a track car or quarter miler, its purely for road use and generally having a giggle and enjoying driving it. At a guess it will be in the high 400's I suppose.

Because the weather has been shit today I stepped into the garage again.....

and took a couple more pics of the engine cos its been a long since I seen it assembed and Im almost a little bit excited

I was never happy with how the cam cover turned out when I painted it last time as it was a rushed job and it always looked a bit flat. Plus the metal work round the lettering had dulled right down again. So..... out came the paint again.

I've decided to paint round the lettering instead of having to keep it polished up all the time. Thats how anti-cleaning I am

Forgot to take any more photo's during painting it.

You can see me waving to the camera, lol

Not too shabby a finish for aerosol

Then I dismantled the throttle body for a bit of a spruce up to be done tomorrow

Thats all for now, hopefully I remember how to put the throttle body back together

Good work, engine looks proper clean - hoping to get mine over to Gordon within a month.

How did you get the screws out the flap in the throttle i tried for ages and they wouldn't budge so gave up in the end
