My track car - updated 25/1/11

Not content with 3 ford rs's I have a bought a French car!

Saxo vts, slightly fettled, cams, ported head, remap, 4 to 1 branch manifold and I'm not bothered if it goes into a tyre wall!

Got some eBay specials already, strut brace, bucket seats, vts wheels. Will update as works done.

First session at Oulton park on the 11th February

they go pretty well, the 16v's had a 106 gti for a few months back a year or so ago, had a few mods and fair play went well for what it was, great fun, destroyed a clutch on the first session at castle combe.

jonny s2 21-01-2011 05:54 AM

they go alrite these mate ive had one LOL

AJC 21-01-2011 06:49 AM

I had a 106 gti years ago that was 180 horse or so and that was pokey. Just had a new box so hopefully it'll last.

Twins 21-01-2011 07:38 AM

AJC 21-01-2011 07:59 AM

Shes going on a diet tomorrow. Everything out. Buckets seats in!!

CraigoScott 21-01-2011 08:06 AM

a friend of mine uses a vtr for a track car, and for some reason has broke 3 driveshafts in 3 track days! it is lowered so dont know if that makes a difference, but they seem to be made of chocolate! :) they go well though for what they are, just i find not great for tall chaps with big feet due to the pedal spacing!!

boothy 21-01-2011 08:24 AM

Whos is that nova thought you didnt like vaxhalls:cry:

JamesH 21-01-2011 08:41 AM

You have too many cars Andy!

Should be a hoot though ;)

Korda 21-01-2011 08:47 AM

not many mk1 vts left. one less when shes hits the tyre wall

AJC 21-01-2011 09:00 AM

I'm hoping I won't break anything, I'll be giving it beans though!

The nova is a friends, it's actually on eBay now.

Funny you say that James, a lot of people think that. Currently 10 or 11 I think.

XRT_si 21-01-2011 09:32 AM

Good little cars these!

Used to have a tweaked VTS in a Furio shell, went well though had to rag the hell out of it.

james kiely 21-01-2011 09:35 AM

you will strip that andy and give it the big bufty treatment wait and see mate

and yeah you do have too many cars lol :blabla:

AJC 21-01-2011 09:54 AM

Nope everything will be bare essential.

The wheels are second hand and I'm giving them the DIY refurb this weekend. Seats are second hand.

The strut brace is new as I watched a second hand one sell for £76 and a new one is £81

Just need harnesses and then I'll weld in my own rear strut brace and maybe a half cage, that I'll make myself.

tonytantrum 22-01-2011 12:01 AM

ive got a head casting and a second hand gearbox for a vts at my works from an abandond vtr to vts project about three years ago brought everything engine loom box ecu for 300 quid then a member of the saxo sports club blow his bottom end up on his vts and as i needed the money we agreed on paying what it owed me on instalments! he gave me 100 quid loaded the block in his van with some other rare parts and ive never seen him since! if you want the box and head casting its yours fed up with looking at it! ps the head has a snapped manifold stud.

NEEDFORSPEED 22-01-2011 07:05 AM

AJC 22-01-2011 05:22 PM

tony, thats a great gesture, but i do think it'd be very awkward for me to collect them, as much as i'd like them

Roosie, what do you find best for handling?

No max, hers is red, she's still got it

Well today saw the wheels painted and the car stripped out. Everything bar dash removed. I'm collecting seats from Bradford tomorrow. Bought a strut brace,

Need harnesses, steering wheel boss and then next weekend will be the roll cage

in a home made booth

Mark_ 22-01-2011 05:52 PM

gonna watch this thread carefully,
i love reading the budget track car builds

roro22 22-01-2011 06:13 PM

I loved my vts cammed, backbox, filter and lowered on springs it was a laugh amd handled well for what it was it broke non stop but it had had a very hard life before i had it but was a good shell. 4 shafts, headgasket, 2 struts, brakes all round twice, lambda, gearbox, clutch, 2 power steering pumps, leaks, calipers all round and 2 axles but I still would have another

oh and i swapped it for an unfinished stripped out corsa redtop project :S

AJC 22-01-2011 08:20 PM

This one better not break on me! Lol

I'm keeping my eye out for a cheap one to keep for spares
