Default Pete's Series One Build - gathering speeeed

Hello people,

Been on here a while perving at other peoples projects and cars , thought i'd throw up a few pictures of my on-going restoration on my C plate Series One.

Long story short, was fine when i bought it, got a bit carried away one day and 3 years later and a respray and loadsa wonga spent its finally resembling a car a again..

Any advice / input welcome ... plan is to beat my mate to finishing , he's dropped a Audi 20v turbo into his golf rallye..lol jealous

anyhoo, the car after a set of wings, bonnet, arches etc and about 2 years in the body shop lol.. funny how people interperate "take your time mate.." ...

back in its home, starting to build..

engine bay...pics have been up b4 just refreshing..

mores been done since ..havent taken pics yet though.

stripped the underneath , its all white and shiny, arse end gear is back in , powder coated and bushed etc.

ebay 'bargain'steel crank that turned out to be fucked,,lol..never mind

rebuild picking up PACE

odds and sods ..

miss my trusty brace of rs turbos ..

and the xr2 ( in hiding waiting on turbo lump )

i digress....

had this in the garage for ages,. lary shiny stage 3 head ( series one ) inlet manifolds etc.

raided the parts bin.,. choice of cam ..cvh 35 , 32 and something else

steel bottom end bought of ebay, was going to build one anyway then this came up with 1000 miles on it and a stage 3 EFI head so it was purchased. 4 paddle clutch. Layton if your on here, thankyou. EFI head will be going up for sale

spare turbo engine build for mr xr2 maybe in the future..

thankyou! well it was orginally kicking out 186 on standard internals cam and a stage2 turbo, shat all over the series 2 .

this time round im going proper job and hoping for a safe 200 bhp. dont want to go crazy because im not really into mental power cars and want it looking relatively unmolested.

so the NEW engine is...

Stage 3 ported / polished head
Ported and polished inlet manifold
+ 1 mm accralite pistons on PEC rods
4 paddle clutch
New bearings etc.
New oil Pump
Choice of Cam with Vernier Pulley
Stage 2 blower.

Will get it running like this then will look into some chippage.,.think thats what it lacked before, went like stink but think theres room for inprovement. Staying on MFI because thats how it should be

Default Petes Series one rebuild - Bit more done..

Right,

Nitromorsed the old paint of the block, primer, spray then i loose assemble...not too bad considering didnt spend hours and hours on it... lol

the T/B needs painting as does the C/O pipe but its generally getting there..

Can anyone advise me weither or not to stick with the 4 Paddle clutch set up that came with the engine or are these a bit to O.T.T for slightly specced CVH ? im thinking it might be a bit too harsh for cruising around town etc.

Fook, wonder how much power you'd need to snap that bad boy

As for tying to hold back from cutting corners, tell me about it, i just want to get mine done and on the road now. Won't be anything near as mint as yours, but hoping to get it tidy. Just got to keep patient though!

looking good, the boys on www.seriesoneturbo.co.uk would love to see this threas, pop on if you have time and post a thread up.

i have used an AP organic clutch in the past and it held up well, think it is rated to 200bhp and feels like a normal clutch.

you wont be dissapointed with that site mate, being pretty much all about the S1 means it is a great place to research and so many S1 boffins you will never be stuck for parts, help or advice.
