Default MK4 1.3 pop

After completing the full restoration on my mk 5 rs2000 my dad has started restoring his mini i also have my rs turbo to start on but but before i do i thought id give my run about a new set of back arches, and it went from there, the 1.3pop used to belong to my Grandad but when he passed it was given to me, it had 40k on the clock when i took delivery of it lol. The shell itself is very solid although he managed to dent both front wings the bonnet and various other parts of the car due to driving in to things as well as the odd cyclist lol )
i have about 5 litres of solid black left that i bought for painting the floor inside and out on my rs2k, i also have a spare I4 and box that may find its way into the bay at a later date with a nice set of 45's attatched but this is all to be decided later as i need to get this back on the road asap due to needing it for work.
my last project all or at least most of the body work was done by my dad aswell as painting it but i wanna try to do as much of this as i can on my own with only his advice so here goes...
this is the first time ive used a mig welder so im in no way an expert, putting in the arches ive blown a few little holes that ive had to weld back up but its all a learning curve, i tryed setting the welder up before doing the arches but it still didnt help lol think im getting somewere now that ive just about finished with it typical lol.
I have a full ford front panel and ford front wings to use on my turbo but didnt wanna use them on this so rep panels it is and with a bit of jiggling about didnt go on to badly, so far i have put on front wings back arches and a little repair to the fron panle were the bumper mounts but im reaaly suprised how clean this car is maybe i shoulda shelled my turbo into this.

cant find a pic of the drivers side arch cut out but you can see from the filler that it was nowere near as bad as the other and i could get away with just cutting away to the first lip.

CheeRS lads, not sure why base models seem more solid but i think your right from what ive seen, other than the rotten arches and a bit on the front panel all seems good, this really isnt going to be a massive project though just a tidy up and unfortunatly the engine will stay a tappet rattler for the time being as i need to get it back on the road, but at some point i will change it, thinking of making a track toy out of this car one day, nothing record breaking just something to have a bit of fun in..

not got a lot more done due to being busy and having a lot on but heres some more pics

the roof has no rot at all sunroof area is mint

roof had a couple of dents in it, my guess is grandad drove into someone sending them rolling over it lol

ever get the feeling your being watched??

trying to hide from the paparazzi its hard being famous lol

goodbye trusty 1.3 tappet rattler

Gonna have to start getting cracked on with this, hoping to fit something a bit more fruity in the bay if all goes well maybe a zetec depending on how difficult the conversion is.

didn't know you had this craig, fair play at having a go yourself and the results look very good!
got a brand new set of rear shocks and springs if ya want them (sick of tripping over them lol)

2.0 zetec on 45's or tb's would be good, you building it as a track car or track and road?

CheeRS steve bit of both track and road hopefully, wish id know you had some standard shocks earlier as mine were fooked on the back and the springs were snapped lol, i have a set of 45's on the shelf in the garage, biggest problem for me is not knowing anything about the fitting of the zetec ie what one to go for due to pats or how id go about wiring it into the mk4s loom, but i'll suss it some how )

looking good patto mate

1.8 zetec and bolt it direct to a rst box if you can get a cheap one mate , use a rst flyweel drilled out to suit the zetec flywheel bolts,

standard cvh gb mounts for the box and a modded mount for the engine ,

tis really a peice of piss fella,

karl knows all about them iirc theres only 1 bolt hole to mod on the cvh engine mount to make it fit the zetec ,

could have a motor in no bother ,

place called bogg brothers in malton have inlet manifolds on the shelf for 45s onto a zetec ,

then bit of ignition and bobs ur uncle

well you need a zetec 1.8 0r 2ltr , but if you go 2 ltr i think you need a 1.8 sump and pic up , well i know you do for turbo application , depending on manifold routing you wouldnt have to if you modded the zetec exhaust to the pop exhaust after the sump ,

so shopping list is

cvh engine mount
zetec engine
cvh gearbox - rst would be better ,

series two clutch , rst flywheel ( which ive got two off , so there when u want it )

45's to zetec manifold - burtons or bogg bros ,

could have it wrapped up in a day mate , id be up for a drive over to pitch in ,

beef

best start looking for engines then! if i decided to go injection ill be better hunting down a full car i guess then i can take the engine loom aswell although not to sure how to chop it into the car, hence why i was thinking carbs but either way i need ignition so i would think it'll be just as easy going injection??

ill drop him a pm and find out for you bud

i soooo dont know what to do about this now, i have got chance of a 1 owner S reg mondeo 1.8lx for cheap but this will have PATS now i read on here that a guy used the a PATS loom by simply taking it out the car putting it in and leaving the key in the mk4 my other option is to scour the scrappies for a car thats none PATS but i wanna get cracking really...

Anyone got any ideas??????

I think to use the pats one it all has to be fitted. Don't think that is to hard. I have heard that some have just taped the key transponder to the sensor.

Looks familiar.... my girlfriend's beloved Mk4 is that colour and now wears those RS2000 wheels. It also had a massive resto and is now looking as good as new

my first motor was a mk4 bonus 90 in silver, i know what you mean about being rusty free.

the mk4 suits rs2k wheels so much
