s2 rs turbo resto
i found this car on ebay, bit of an impulse buy because it was close.upon inspection it was pretty original, had loads of history and a clean interior and good engine.
i knew it had been bumper and needed a wing,a door and an xmember and could see it was needing a floorpan and wheelarch and some other patches here and there.it wasnt till i got stuck that i realised how bad it was.i didnt leave any rot,i cut out any rotten parts and welded in full panels or patches and fully welded everything.
what it was like when i got it.
dogs arent too impressed
pretty much standard re-conned engine
it was here i realised how bad it was!
home made inner wheelarch
crossmember going in
first wheelarch on
new sill and floor sections
new goodies to go on!
drivers side welded up
it needed outer sills, inner sills, floor to sill sections, half of drivers rear floorpan, front chassis legs from bumper back to above drivershaft rebuilt,2 patches on boot floor, inner and outer arches and inner and outer rear corners and sections of rear chassis legs both sides, and i thought i could do this quickly!
crossmember on
casey's exhausted after the marathon welding session!
taped up and got some nice new paint on
getting built back up.i didnt take any pics of the passenger side,i was so blinkered with just getting on with it i forgot.i also cleaned up and painted the underside, powdercoated all the suspension, fitted new konis and springs, did a cossie disc conversion, polybushed everything, fitted a cam, chip, intercooler and some other bits and pieces.i have more pics which ill upload later,im not finished with it yet as some parts still require painting but my pal who does my paint is busy with other things but heres a pic of how its looking just now.
i dont think i have done badly,i couldnt weld before i bought this and the 1st welder i got a shot of was really shit and the mask was crap too.it broke fortunately and i got a shot of a better welder and a mask which goes from day to night?that was loads better and i got on quickly then.the welding probably took a good 5 hours a day for 4 weeks.i have had the car since the 5th of april
,before that it had sat in a garden for about a year.before this i think it would have been a decent shell barring the accident damage but sitting outside just ruined it.it has years in it now as theres plenty waxoyl on it!more pics will come when i find them!
