sapphire cos 4x4 outside 4 years!
Hi there everybody!!! Can anyone give me advice please on getting my cos back on the road after sitting for four years!!! I've owned her for 12 years but was out of work for 4 years with illness and surgery. I did'nt have the heart to sell her even though i had no job and no cash. What do i need to check first and what fluids,filters and other things do i need to replace? I'm not very mechanically minded so advice would be greatly appreciated. My car is a moondust silver saff 4x4 on a 92j with only 74,000 on the clock. I live in Keith,Moray in N.E Scotland. Any contact numbers for advice or mechanics in my area would also be a major help if anyone knows? Thanks again and its good to be here.Cheerz

Well if your determined to get it running i'd do the following;
change oil/filter/coolant as a minimum.
To get it running i'd pull the plugs out and crank it over till the oil light goes out to make sure you've got good oil pressure and it's all been pumped around the engine as best possible, then put new plugs in and fire it up.
That's what i'd do, other people may have a few other tips like checking/changing timing belt etc and draining off fuel, but TBH i'd start with checking it isn't totally rotten beore i spent any money on it as i'd bet that it'll need welded as a minimum, or a reshell if it's been sitting that long.

I'd reccomend these plugs, perfectly useable and cheap or you.

Oil i'd reccomend Millers 10W/60
Power steering fluid, dunno, just something decent should do the trick, same as coolant, long as you have the right concentration.
When looking under the car pay particular attention to the boot, rear chassis rails and front jacking point area under the car near the footwells.

Yeah I've got one too and stay fairly localish to you, I'm quite busy for the next couple of weeks but could nip out for a look sometime if your stuck. I got my 10W/60 Millers from Autosave in Aberdeen, I don't think alot of places sell it locally though so you may have to get it online. Also if your getting it online invest in a new magnetic sump plug from MSD, they can be found on Ebay for pretty cheap.
