Default Magenta cossie resto, parts back on, deja vu!!

Well ive had my cossie now for just over a year and its been a really good car, ive treated it to a GT30 turbo, refurbed the wheels and a few other bits and pieces along the way but its now time to make the underside look as good as the top.

My plans are to remove the rear beam, tank, gearbox etc and restore the underside up to the bulk head, once that is done i will then lower the car back down and make a start on removing the engine and pretty much everything else under there, i can then respary the bay and tidy up the engine components and have a few things powder coated etc all in black to give it that stealth look.

A few pics of how she looks with a bit of spit and polish,

A pic of a wheel after i refurbed it

Here's a little vid of the car at motorworx rolling road day, this was on its old T35 turbo made 349bhp with 370ftlb of torque until the clutch slipped

On to what ive been doing today, got the car jacked up in the air and set about removing the rear beam etc, it all came out really easy to be honest and only found one horror which is as you would expect some rust,

Name: Photo0296.jpg
Views: 244
Size: 95.1 KB

So i will get onto removing some of the sealer and weld up that section of rust, i will then cover the underside in that 3m sealer in the places it needs it and then paint the underside in magenta with a few coats of laquer,

few randoms now of the underside and bits removed ready for stripping then off to the powder coaters, let me know what you think,

Alright Beef, yeah GT30 is pretty mad, i havnt given it the full boot yet as im unsure on where my fueling will be. Gonna have it checked on the dyno after the rebuild just out of intereset to see how far the greys will go, the spec at the minute is, 205 block, YB1261 head gasket with ford head bolts, ported head with inlet to match, standard cams, 500 cooler, 3 bar, super chips chipped ecu, scorpion stainless etc, looking for a safe 400 or as close as would do me.

Little update, got the rest of the underside stripped of components and set to cleaning it and repairing the rust,

Size: 87.1 KB

After i finisherd using thinners and degreaser to clean it i set to painting the sill, sill lips and arches with that 3m sprayable sealer, all went ok until i sprayed the rest with stone chip, i read the 3m pack and it said air drying products can be sprayed over in 30 mins but when i did catch it in places it done this,

All good

Where its cracked
Name: Photo0305.jpg
Views: 218

Now im hoping that its just because the stonechip has dried faster than the 3m and made it crack, so hopefully tomorrow when the 3m has gone off fully i can just lightly dust over these areas with some stonechip then spray the magenta base coat and laquer after, anyone had this happen before and is what im thinking going to work ? Dave "TWINS" you may know as you've been there and done it all ?

Its not to bad to do mate, just take it all off a piece at a time, label and take some pics to remind yourself, just be prepared to get covered in shit BIG time

Yeah its not to bad, ive checked it again this evening and the 3m is now going off under the stone chip, so hopefully it will all be hard by the morning for a bit more then onto paint, which is the fun part as thats when the transformation really shows.

Im looking forward to having it set up on the GT30 as it feels a beast already.

Hi mate just seen the pics ,yes have had this happen before and it turned out the stone chip i used was out of date ,let it go right off and then dust over to build up the layers, with some fresh stuff .

Right got her painted today, after that little set back with the stone chip yesterday everything was all ok, was up there this morning and checked it had all gone off ok which it had so i just dusted over the cracked areas with some fresh stuff, then set to base coat and laquer

Also painted the fuel lines gloss black and stripped the beam etc down ready for powder coating,

Its such a dark colour for the underside really as magenta needs light to show its true colour, oh well looks better than oil and rot !

Some of my bits came in today from Ford so went and collected those, a set of droplinks and the clips to hold the fuel and brake pipes where what came in so set to fitting those,

Cleaned up my the fuel lines and sprayed them gloss black, also cleaned the original brake lines up and gave them a coat of Ford Laurel green, not to sure if im happy with the brake lines i may well take the back end section off and remake it out of copper then cover in heat shrink, what do you guys think?

Still awaiting my parts from the powder coaters and a few more odds and sods from Ford, gonna have a look for some poly bushes at the ford fair sunday, never know might find a bargain
