How much paint?

Hi, can anyone help me? I am losing the will to live with the foverever moving goalpost that is my 2.0l zvh conversion.

Does anyone know how much paint would be required to repaint the gem (mk4 escort cabrio including shuts and possibly a lick over the engine bay)?

Also any ideas on where to get the paint from without the need for another mortgage would be a great help?

Pop to your local body shop suppliers ,they will be able to tell you the amount needed and the thinners and activator to go with it

But they will see a bird walk in, think it's easy pickings and tell me I need 5l!

Your gunna need about 3 litres and look on ebay, that'll be the cheapest place to get it from. Hope that helps.

Thanks very much, I'll try that, thought it would be expensive on there to be honest.

What is the best make to go for? Do I need etch primer or are there other types? (I know nothing about paint, or anything else for that matter) but I was aiming at the higher end of the quality scale, laquered finish?

Thanks again

you only need etch primmer if you have bare metal, most paint qualities are about the same and long as you have a good painter then you will get a good result, if you use a high build primmer first and it has a really good flat down to a very smooth finish then apply about 3 coats of paint and 4 or 5 coats of laquar, you can then 1200 wet n dry the whole car down and reallly well buff the car up to a very good show car finish hope this helps

Paint quantities differ if using solid or basecoat paint , solid colours dont need to be laquered so cutting down on paint and cost , where as basecoats needs to be laquered , so doubling up on price .
Personally id always etch prime the car after prepping as then your starting with a firm solid grip substrate , then apply your 2 pack primer , flat down and spray top coat .
More paint applied , more paint there is to flat back and polish up .;-)

i wouldnt go more than 3 coats of clear tbh no resion to , if you cant flat back and polish up 2 coats to glass then theres something up, iv always gone 2 full heavy coats on everything apart from my tt were bonnit bumper and front wings have 3, as for what paint to use i would ask who ever is painting it, if your doin it your self then totaly up to you lol , etch is always a good ground ! you wouldnt need alot to do a car max id say is a ltr
:D

Always well worth buying an extra litre for later IMO
Any slip ups, spills or damage on fitting up or even scrapes 6 months down the line and you already have the perfect match ready to go ;-)
