XR3i injection on a MK5 1.3

sup, ive found an awesome guy who works at the ford dealership near me who breaks any type of dead ford he can get his hands on. and i got an entire XR3i injection system for a 10er (6 distributors, 3 plenums and rubber large pipes, 1 inlet manifold with throttle body, 2 swirl pots, 1 thing which looks like a swirl pot but different, 1 injection rail with 6 injectors (all working) 4 lots of injection piping. 2 airboxes and 2 filters. oh he also threw in a set of XR3i mudflaps too.

now im going to attempt to go from carb to injection and before anyone asks ive tested it and the manifolds fit correctly even tho the engines are a few years apart.

i know ive got to get a hold of an ECU but imm wondering if i will need one because i dont really know what it will do, all the sensors i have seam to plug straight into the system and function correctly. (air sensor and oil temp and whatnot)

ive just got to get hold of some long bolts to put the injection rail in and a set of gaskets.

pictures to come tomorrow so you can all see what ive got to play with, im posting it all here to document what happens and for you all to help me when i eventually get stuck lol.

ttu later, loz

The ECU controlls the ratio of air and fuel, according to the data it gets from sensors. When the engine is cold, it puts more fuel, and when it's hot it puts less and so on. If you don't have an ECU, the injectors won't open, and even the fuel pump won't go on.

Problem with the xr3i injection system installation on 1.3 engine is that the engines are different. The ECU thinks that you have the xr3i engine, but you have a smaller one. What happen is, that it puts more fuel to the block than your engine can burn. My best bet for an ECU to this installation would some custom one, Megasquirt for example.

The carb fuel pump won't give enough pressure. And what will open the injectors, if there's nothing controlling them?

honestly ive no idea, i think they are pressured. i know they arnt electronicly controlled. however ive had to give up on the project as it will give me too much hassle becuase i will have to re-port the manifold to get it to fit. nevermind eh. Im still planning to run it on bike carbs at some point but for now ive used the rubber plenum off the injection system to house a pipercross cold air induction filter that i got off ebay so ive got a few more horses. i also got a chance to clean my inlet manifold freeing some horses up.
