well folks its sunday 3 october ,

and adams cars made it back to specials yesterday to get the final parts of the work done ,

obv adam wants the car to be 100 % mint as do we , so first job was to inspect the sills today , they seemed solid , just poorly fitted .

some piccys

i hear what you say " ahh typical rot in a rs lol " but these have been replaced lol !!! and by the looks of it not that bloody long ago ,

but the super bit is the arch

ohh shes a beaut !!

basically they aint even weded the inner to the outer , and after they had bodged them together via overlapping they had a 5 mm think skim of catty in the lower quarter panel , and shit load of sealer in the arch to hide it ,

ohh and the wankers even stuck a peice of sound deadening on the inside of the quarter !!

wonder if they made sure there horses wer fed and watered whilst putting these in !!

Fucking hell mate, you said it was bad

Oh well it can all be fixed, i have come to far with it now to be doing a half arsed job with the shell. So good look lads and crack on looks like you got some work on.

Just goes to show, car gets sold to you as a mint rot free shell, think i had my trousers down abit there

Who says projects dont cost!!

Drive shafts will be from sitech, there is always the option of dave mac aswell, either way not going to be cheap but really good quality.

update time folks ,

ill keep the words breif , frankly the pics do the talking ,

beef

you can see here , that when they refitted the sills the floorpan had dropped , never even botherd to push it bk up before welding lol

bk up and plugged together

middle section cleaned and prepped with coat of red

rear section of sill

so i made up some strengtheners to retro fit after karl patched the rear ,

front section cleaned prepped for new full sill ,

attention turned to the filler kneck , karl fabbed up a section to fit as old ones fucked

perfectly center

with that in it was time to cut out the old inner arch

note the rust , wouldnt of lasted more than a year

then on inspection , surface rust where the quarter had been fitted

so did all we could do without hacking off quarters , a good wire brush and coupious amount of red over the top ,

so , with the inner arch out , the sill 90% there , karl jumped on a poor patch repair the chassis leg had ,

ooooohh

inner skin cleaned of surface rust , oxided

then ground back

coat of red - bad repair ?? what bad repair !!!

sooo.. tomorrow should hopefully see the inner arch fitted , the sill fitted and a start on the outer arch with a bit of luck ,

will keep progress updated

beef & k .

what do you use to grind the welds back ( i no that seems a stupid question)

do you literally use a grinder and discs, or do you use soft pads or what ? ive been told several different things,

im attempting the same sort of work on a series 2, doing the battery tray tonight, its exactly how yours was lol. cheers, lee
