I believe the S and J head comes "optimised" for flow, the only argument being if the valve and port sizes were too large would you lose speed of flow etc...Rod will be the first to say that his car made 7 gazillion horsepower without the need for bigger valves but as I understand it (in my basic terms) there was a feeling that if the barrels were larger then the head shape could cause a shroud whereas the S and J heads allowed for this???

The good news is that it would only need a clean up and pot matching for inlets and maybe a quick port so should not cost the earth.

I am sure S and J will provide this info based on the high spend

The SJ head comes in 3 diff airflow versions. None where the same airflow port sizes that I use.
The best way to look at there head is it's a new casting and sj porting to it so it's not night a day diff and it's airflow is what sj are happy with the results they get. Which will be diff port sizes and airflow that than other tuners and head porters do as we are all diff.

I joined a series 1 facebook page and someone put up a video of me doing the 0-60 sprint!

Really pleased as I had a video but it didn't have sound, the guy was kind enough to email me it. I thought you lot would like to see it too, makes me grin when I hear it.

Thanks guys, I actually can't remember the time, 3.85 is ringing a bell?? I hadn't ever done it before and kept launching with the revs too low and it would bog down. Eventually I thought fuck it and pinged the clutch at 6k revs and it took off! The grips it's got is mental.

In two minds after watching the video to take the box etc out or leave it. I have collected all the std stuff to put back on.

I dont know....

Wow, That is quick. I am thinking that if I can get over the mechanical sympathy then my car would do similar times, Mark Shead set my launch control at 4500 rpm and said it was probably a bit high for my car, no idea how it even works and will probably never use it.

My Oppliger is semi straight cut and makes some nice noises, it is a little loud at times but I don't have carpet yet (just dynamat until the carpets are made) not sure how much louder your box would be but if you want to run proper power you are going to break the std one.

Yeah mines loud too, very loud in fact. It's nice to see the looks of confusion but it's horrible to drive normally. I had never launched it before even though the cars set up to do it. I felt like I was going to break it which is probably daft but hey it's my baby. I started at 4K and it just bogged down, was useless at any revs below 6k. I had a few tries and each time I would bump up the revs a little until the run above which kinda nailed it. Would have been better I think if I just gave it full revs and dumped the clutch!

I have booted mine in 1st and the rear end slides out (probably poor geometry) but it feels so brutal in first. My car feels best in 4th and it takes off like my 2.0 gti 205 does in 1st or 2nd.

I am pretty sure that 5000 rpm and step off the clutch will be mid 3's unless it destroys something

This has quaife front New diff and supra weir so all 4 wheels are locked up tight

What do you have? I have a brand new weir supra rear end on mine too, it's definetly tight! I know what you mean, on full lock you can hear the other wheel scrabling for traction.

I have Weir Kit on rebuilt supra in the rear and quaife atb in the front, again all new. It is getting looser though. The diff is not noisey unless on full lock and yes, you can hear the tyres skip, it almost wants to stall the engine on tick over.

I have the close ratio semi straight cut oppliger "long" box. It is noisey in some gears under full load but not deafening, I can hear the sat nav and the CD playing in the car.

I forgot you had that, i love it. I'm also very envious of your ramps! I'm planning on doing the same in my garage but there's a long list of things first!

I've got 4x4 Granada hubs there for it glen. I'll get it mocked up and see what I need to do with the brakes. I wanted the series 1 wheels without having to use spacers or cut material off the wheels. So I'm going to give it a shot with these and hopefully the cossie brakes will fit in behind the Granada wheels a lot better.

For ages I have had a battery that dies on me after a few days or even less, this has not really bothered me because it's kinda handy not being able to start it as I'm away all the time so thieves would have about as hard a time as me getting it started!!

I decided to buy a new white flat top battery that I saw on eBay and stick a sticker kit on.

I was convinced that the car wouldn't start very well when you turned it over due to a weak battery even when charged so went for the bigger battery and put new acid in and charged it. First throw and it seemed perfect, fired first time. Usually it has to be cranked over for ages, I was told this was due to the big injectors but that didn't seem right? Anyway, new battery does the bloody same. Dead after one day! I must have a drain somewhere, driving me nuts.

Also decided to make the engine bay more stock looking so whipped out the cone filter and tried to fit a panel filter.

Stock filter sitting in place.

It wouldn't fit! I need to remove my turbo heatshield and hopefully it will fit, easier said than done, I also have the problem that my engine bay is slightly narrower than a sierra so I'm still not sure that will be enough. I have an old crappy stock heatshield here to try too so that might get in the way... oh the joys..

This week I'll take off the straight cut box. It's now sold, I'll miss it, loved the thing and if I ever go for another I will be phoning Bara back up, service is second to non!

Need to clean up the standard diff and gearbox I've got and install with a standard clutch. Not sure what clutch to go for? Going to bring the spec back down to standard T3 I think, so don't need one for a lot of power and want something that's more comfortable to drive?

Glad to hear you got the straight cut box sold, hope you were happy with the money you got for it. Not sure if this is of any help but as far as I know I use a standard 4x4 clutch in mine and that's been dyno'd at 348bhp at the hubs and seems to be fine and quite light under foot. I'm sure the reduced weight of the car will help the clutch deal with the added power. I'm running a T34.63.

.

Did you have to counter sink the 2 forward bolts that hold the diff mount to the floor, I had murder with mine and had to do this as the gap was to small for alankey or hex head bolts

Yeah got the money I was wanting. If I didnt I wasn't going to sell it. The box is great, I really would have built another car around it, not very sensible money wise but I loved it. Unfortunetly the next build will be a 3dr so it didn't suit. Which make of clutch is it mate?

Yeah mine didn't fit either. In fact quite a lot of it didn't fit! Was a total pain to install on the car. I've heard of quite a few people saying the same thing now that I have mentioned it.

The diff cover was nice, my supra cover was scabby. Unfortunetly the covers holes didn't line up perfectly either! Had to mess around a little to make it fit too......

Mine was hard work to fit, had to loose fit all the bolts and wind them in a few turns each so as not to cross thread them.

My MK cover went straight on, no probs. What make is the one you have? Looks MK to me.

I wonder if there is a certain amount of tolerance in the original castings of the diffs?

Mk mate. The smaller bolt holes, M10 I think didn't line up too well, had to kinda force it on eventually. I don't know, maybe the castings are slightly different. Had to cut more off the casing to get the different top plate (7.5") to fit. Wasn't amused about that either, didn't need to buy more shaft adapters as the originals have holes for 4x4 and 2wd! Didnt need the bloody things! Once it's on it's great does the job, I've got a brand new supra diff (internals) and I expect it will do well but my plan was to have different ratios for different tracks......f**k changing that over each time!

Yeah I'm going to agree with you there. I've just fitted my box and took it for a few mile's of a test drive and I'm hooked on the noise and the feel of it.

Unfortunately I have no idea what make the clutch is, I even had it off once and can't remember seeing anything on it. Sorry I know that's not much help. If I was to replace it I would buy a 'standard' described clutch from a manufacturer like AP or similar.

Then because I was a bit grubby I thought I'll pack up and do the centre consol, gearstick tomorrow when I'm clean etc. Should be just the cradle and prop mount to pop off and the gearbox will be out. Stupid f**ker that I am, I lowered the bonnet down to low and my tooltray made a nice little dent through it!!! It was at this point I called Gibby and booked a full paint job back to diamond white as I was making the car as standard as possible. F**k it!!

Well I got the gearbox out, was a nightmare job lying on the floor. Never doing that again without a ramp! Not sure but it seemed like on my car the bulkhead is closer to the back of the engine than a sapphire? So when I tried to tilt the engine back slightly to help pull the gearbox out it didn't bloody move! Had to take the anti roll bar off and lever it down while I pulled the box back. Well when it goes back on it will be fully built up and I will lower the car over engine/box/suspension etc in one go.
