Bedford do employ some pretty good instructors but as with most circuits they are mainly racing drivers earning some cash, that doesn't always mean they can observe or teach well.

Don Palmer is a good teacher and can teach there.
Toby I think your right mate iv been thinking of this my self .

Well as its ford fair this weekend we fort we best get some of the jobs done on the focos witch went well till I did a road test that when it all went very rong . All of a sudden it felt like the motor went very tight then that cleared but then straight away it started ticking so I got it home very sharpish . Well tonight we got the motor out tonight and started the strip down well it's spun the shells on number 3 con rod and started having a go at the center mane shells . It's killed one con rod and iv checked the crank and it's going to need a regrind but it's going to be OK as the manes are on .25 and the big ends are .00 so all being well it won't be long befor it's back togever photos tomorrow

Always good when you get a good deal on things like that,

I see your thread about the Volvo! real pain that, only problem with the modern stuff over the last 5-10 years and 1 of the reasons i went for the ford ranger truck i just bought as compared to alot of things its relatively simple to work on and fix but that never means it will be straightforward as we all know

I no wot your saying about these modded cars there a pain in the ass . I had to sort a new abs unit out for the car sorted that with BBA REMAN Ł460 😩
and you see them on ebay for Ł50/Ł100 and you think job done rong there coded to the car so Ł100 for unit from a Braker Ł30 to have it coded at the dealer only and one hours labour Ł90 so Ł220 but then it might not work still that's why these modern car are all a pain in the ass . My ABS unit is the same as ford fiesta jag bmw Aude and that just to start with . First time in my life iv tuck a car to a mane dealer it gutted me .
I was told last night of a chap payed Ł12000 for jeep one year later it got faults Ł4000 to sort it then sold it for Ł8000 now that's a right good kicking

I think it had been going for some time as iv done mallory park two times the first time I did see the oil presser moving about a bit so I had been keeping a eye on it about 6 weeks later we did mallory park again only because it's just down the road from my partners house any way it did not seam to bad that time but saying that it was a colder day and I was not out on track as long each time as we kept having problems with boost pipes . Then come Bedford all good all day but I had said the car had a bad vibrashion at top end and it was struggling to push throw it so I was watching the oil presser as to be onist I fort this was coming . As it's only running a standerd pump
Cold 60 psi tick over
Hot 30 psi tick over
Hot 50 psi 2500 rpm
So you can see I now it's day was numbered
Still most of the part are in the post now on there way to me and the crank goes in today for the regrind

Sounds like dry sump time. Its expensive but not if you are into this happening a few times & it will unless you bite the bullet. Wish you well with it but that's sound advice learned the hard way.

I talked to Mr Shead about this if I do the Ally block build and he said YES to big wing and no need for dry sump?

A bit of a update time the motor is back togever now

The gearbox has had a good clean and repainted

The sump is all modded and tested and is fitted with a gated bathel

The engine bay is all most ready for the motor to go back I witch should be in the week all being well

And the fuel tank is back in as iv had some mods done to it as we did find some problems with it so it now runs a pump on the left and the right sides just some more pipe clamps to fit to it

And these should be at home when I get there Sunday

3 fuel pumps?

Thats a really poor design, you need to just fit a proper collector. I've seen so many engines fail that rely on more than one fuel pump.

Make it work with just one.
If you need 2 to supply the fuel then you have too much risk if it running lean.

But if you had just one and it failed would it not run lean then?

No it would cut out. If the fuel pump stops or to the point where min fuel pressure cannot be delivered, with twin pumps you then lose 50% of your fueling, the other pump still works, instantly lean and melted.

Could you then run an alarm on fuel pressure or delivery? Mark Shead said he can cut the engine on low oil pressure, surely the same can be done on fuel or running lean?

Surely though if one pump drops to min fuel pressure then the same happens with two, after all it is about pressure and supply. Could one pump not supply 100% even if one fails?

Yes tou could, I have it on mine, sensor on the fuel rail.
If you are reliant on needing 2 then the problem will often occur at full chat mid corner, one pump drops out, lean mixture, one pump tried to keep up, with just one pump it the pump seizes or practically stops then (fuse should blow) car will cut out from no fuel.

On the Emtron you have fuel pressure control compensation and protection. Ideally you should have about a 20 to 30% safely margin in fuel supply and not more as all it does is heats the fuel and this can change the afr of the engine. So fuel temp monitoring is a very good and have the ecu compensate for it also.

It uses 1 pump to run the motor . it's got 2 pumps on the tank 1 left and 1 right they are both feeding a seporet tank witch is built onto the side of the mane tank . The mane tank has two bathels inside and is foam filled but two times I've done mallory park after about ten laps I would get a coff from the motor because it's all rights on that track . It's last outing at Bedford it was spot on so it was 100 % fuel starvation as the fuel was sitting over the one side of the tank and the scavenger pump was just sucking air

Ran 3 pump set up on mine and was perfect

Single to swirl pot from main tank
2 feeding the rail from the swirl pot

Looking good coley, let me know when you next do Mallory as might hopefully have the GTR by then and can come out with you

Be careful with fuel pumps sucking air as it will burn the pump out if doing it for long enough as they are not made for that.
