congratulations on your wedding,

I have got a quick question when you were making the GTR to cosworth bellhousing, you had it bolted to a ford cylinder block does it matter what block it is ? does it have to be a cosworth block and crank.

You could bolt it to a thick plate as long as you make sure nothing can move with the heat.

The block I have is a pinto block so exactly the same as a cosworth block for the purpose of bolting up a dummy box and sump,

The crank is different but it's only being used as a centreline guide to align using a turned centering tool I made that sits over the crank end and the box input guide slides in the other end to make sure the 2 are perfectly aligned

Getting a bit of time to do a few bits on the car

When I fitted the skyline box I just hacked and bodged and re welded the exhaust to fit quickly as I was pushed for time for some reason, ford fair I think!

It sits too low at the flexi which has damaged it and was just crap in general compared to how nicely it was done originally when I made it to suit the cossie box

A few pics

So I'm going to re make it, only the middle section will be redone, just to tuck it up out the way again and fit a new flexi,

Whilst I'm on it I will do a bit more to meet the msa logbook regs

Very nice thanks mate but was itching to get back and get on with things lol

Yeah it was so nicely routed for the cossie box and I just didn't have the time back then to re do it and I've just left it ever since,

Time to get it done nicely again

Hello, Marc, cheers from Brazil!
I found out your project when googling for ideas to customize my Fiesta.
I've been reading this topic for about a month (it's over 120 pages! lol) and I am really impressed.
You've got very good taste and great manufacturing and welding skills!
Congrats on your project!
Oh, and also congrats on your wedding!
Regards!

No i didn't mate as i was almost out of gas and i welded them autogenously so you do not get hardly any sugaring compared to with using filler, some people don't think its a good way to do it but if your fit up is perfect with no gap at all and its not designed to last a lifetime then theres nothing wrong with doing it this way, admittedly with filler will be slightly stronger but its not really required in a fully supported exhaust like this

Still haven't got round to the rest of the changes to get it log booked as i have been too busy lately

But on a better note, after 15 and a half years in the drainage game and only self teaching welding in my shed via youtube and the likes i have now become a full time welder/fabricator
for "Airtec Motorsport"

Mainly ally welding of coolers and tanks etc but also doing some development fabrication on new parts as and when needed and some mild and stainless stuff as well

Massive change of career for me and a drop in money but for the first time in a long time i really enjoy going to work even if im batch welding coolers etc and it benefits me in every way to learn more about welding and some aspects of fabrication etc

Thanks
Marc

Wow that’s some career change, well done! Amazing what opportunities you can make for yourself. Big believer in doing something you enjoy and get an interest from, rather than something just for the money aspect.

Hope all goes well !

Couldn’t agree with you more. I weld aluminium like that sometimes, especially on corners where one sheet overlaps the next. Again, people say you shouldn’t because it’s more likely to crack. I always get relatively decent looking welds that way but that’s because my filler rod hand isn’t that steady!

Well done on new career/job also

Not been up to much with the car lately due to just being busy and I now have a baby boy called Jake to take up all my time lol, being a dad is certainly a busy job

but I just bought myself a nice Brian James A4 transporter so I can now enjoy the fiesta as and when I get the chance without having to sort out trailer hire etc

ive just booked 2 trackdays tonight

snetterton on Monday 22nd October and brands hatch on Monday 26th November via opentrack.co.uk

cant wait to get back out in it,

maybe just maybe il get the boost map finished before then as well and get some proper power down

Well done Marc on becoming a dad , it sure is hard work lol , mines 3 1/2 and it bedlam, you just don't get 5 mins without being wanted which means a lot more than a expensive pile of metal ( my car not yours ) but it will get done when he doesn't want to know me anymore lol.
Never knew you worked for airtec , that's quality mate and iam glad you found happiness in your work , iam still searching but will get there .
also just about to order some bits from airtec for my new fiesta st180 , any discount for a fellow passionford user

cheers paul

Well done mate on becoming a dad you will love every minute of it till he gets to 18 years of age 😀

And about time you got it on track as that's wot you built it for so time to use it .

I've just had a look on that open track site I think you find when you get there or some of the emails you get back from them will come from TRACKDAYS as the two mane companies that run the tracks these days are JAVLIN and TRACKDAYS
I've booked with JAVLIN and got there and TRACKDAYS are running and like wise .
TRACKDAYS run it very professional and run a very good meat and won't hold back at ticking you off if you do Rong . JAVLIN run them very well all so and won't everyone to have some good fun and have time to chat . We are on first name turms with Bob from JAVLIN .
How ever runs the days you have booked you will have fun
And as to your trailer there spot on Brian james trailers I've got a ( A MAX ) 16FT Bed wheel rack and Jerry can holder it made life so much easier the weekend

Hi Paul

Thank you mate, yeah it’s certainly a full time job ay lol,

ive been welding for Airtec almost a year now, bringing my ally tig bang up to scratch,

i can get a small discount, about 10% I think it is,

Hi Ian,

im long overdue to get the fiesta out an enjoy it but with my wedding last year then the new job and honeymoon and now the baby I just haven’t had time until now that’s why I wanted to buy my own trailer so I can go to a track day at the drop of a hat as I have everything I need now without hiring. The A4 is an awesome trailer as well and my one is only a year old so lovely condition still, I wouldn’t do a track day without a trailer

Hi Jon - thanks mate, your so right! Jake is a month old today already!!! It’s flown by but been tiring for sure

thanks
marc

Well finally getting back on Track next Monday at Snetterton and I’m really looking forward to it,

im fitting a new life racing Ecu at the end of this week and I have also bought a JT Innovations expansion unit mainly for a few more inputs/outputs and the gps feature for track maps etc

tge new life Ecu is pretty much the same as the old one but the new one has adaptive knock control, 128mb data logging and more inputs and outputs

i could not add these things to my current f88 Ecu as things like adaptive knock are build time only options which mine oesnt have

if the Ecu and box is fitted in time I hope to do some full logging at Snetterton then get the car on the hub dyno the month after to finally give the engine full boost

thanks

HI Toby

the map file can just be copied from the old Ecu over to the new one the thing I can’t set up till we hit the dyno will be the knock control as I just won’t have time, just incase there’s is any glitches I will take the old Ecu with me

That is good news, I didn’t realise you can swap the map "inter species" as such, that makes it much easier.

wouldnt you be best off just ,leaving it as is if you cant use the functionality of the new ecu?

i would hold off fitting until it was ready to be mapped etc

The car is mapped mate and has been used on 3 track days and various blasts out on the road

the new ecu is just for more data logging and a few more inputs and outputs and also the adaptive knock control feature,

the new new ecu can be plugged in, Will Pedley can swap map files and double check it all then after snetterton I can wire in and set up the knock control with him
