Shame about the screen Marc, but could have been a lot worse. Bet the windscreen people got a shock when you turned up in that - they were probably just expecting a little 1.25 or something!

Good excuse for a GRP or carbon bonnet to save a couple of extra kg?

i was at the rather wet session at snet yesterday in my focus, you came past me on the track, if i'd had half a brain i'd have put two and two together and said hi on the day, for some reason i thought the car was orange lol

did you stay for the wet afternoon? my water pump died during the day so we cut it short

This explains my stuck open thermostat, I know it had failed but didn't know how/why until I just removed it

No idea why it done that, pushed the pin back in and tested it a few times in boiling water and it opens and closes fine so re fitted it and will order a spare in case it does it again

certainly looks like you are starting to get to grips with the car!!! your driving style is completely different from the first video you posted!!!

So whats next for the the car? any plans over winter other than a gear box refresh?

Plans for winter are not major but........

Hub dyno to map boost upto 2.2bar along with new strategy anti lag that's actually usable not just for show

Gearbox rebuild

Side exit clamp on tailpipes as the under car ones have absolutely blackened the underneath at the rear lol

A few tidy up things here and there

Proper oil catch tank for wrc vent pipe

New discs as mine were 2nd hand and warped when I got them

Change brake fluid as it's not very good at high temp

Got some pipe for the wrc breather tank top vent but there is no room for a pipe to come out the top,

So I have started to mod the top vent pipe to angle it back down so I can run a neat but of hose to a catch tank,

How the tank was

With the modded outlet half done but I ran out of gas so will finish it Sunday

Once this is done and piped up hopefully it will solve the issues of fumes in the car as the tank was obviously venting up and over the windscreen then it was drawn in through the vent blowing it in my face!

I see yours (WRC breather) does not have the plate welded in the middle of it, i have seen that some people have done a modification on there,s does yours work OK other than the oil fumes on the windscreen. I have one but not fitted it yet and was thinking of doing the plate mod first.

Mine has all the proper parts inside and is fully baffled/separated mate it's just not welded from the outside like the copies made by a lot of other people, its pretty complex inside and it works perfectly

Hi Ian,

Yeah shame about the bonnet as could do without the headache on the day and the cost although i got off lightly, all in all only about Ł200 fix inc painting another bonnet i guess,

With the thermostat i have no idea why it has done that and i don't think i am likely to find out, i have re fitted it but if it does it again i also have another new 88degree stat that i will fit, my water temps used to be about 90-95deg but on this stat i am going to try it with a small 3mm hole drilled in the stat that alot of people do to help with bleeding and slight bypass which should lower temps ever so slightly as id like it to sit around 90.

Tow car situation will be something i will look into in the future but not just yet as with the expense of the car in general i do not have money for a new daily and my current mondeo tdci isnt really worth much so will not cover the cost of something like your volvo, I will definitely have to sort something though

Finished welding the wrc breather vent

Not super neat after making a bit of mess running out of gas but it can't be seen anyway

Will run this neatly and see if there is room for a catch tank as its a bit tight under there

The actual wrc breather was made by someone else mate as I bought that long before I could weld anything lol

I have sent 1 of my discs and bells off to Reyland Motorsport so he can make me some new discs as mine are the original wrc brembo bolt pcd and you can't get them anywhere so best option was to have Martin make a pair rather than a new pair of bells with a more common pcd,

My discs are also an odd size of 368mm x 32mm

Should have the new ones back by the end of next week

Also after seeing a few crap bonnets for sale second hand I'm going to order an insurance appoved pattern part from Eurocarparts today for Ł84 as whatever I buy will need painting anyway,

Also a nice set of Aerocatch xtreme to go with it

New bonnet picked up tonight,

It's a patten part so I'm not sure how it's gonna fit, annoying thing is because of all the cut outs needed to clear things in the engine bay like wastegate and suspension top mounts etc I won't know how it's gonna fit till I cut it all up lol

Unless I remove everything the fouls but I can't be arsed to do that !

All the pen areas need to be cut out

And the new Aerocatch Xtreme catches to be fitted, these Xtreme versions just have steel pins rather than alloy

Another issue I had on the way to snetterton and it's now the 3rd time is losing my magnet for my speedo signal,

Even with proper 2 part epoxy the magnet flies off after a while as seen lol

Name: F8DFAEA9-1647-4E5C-BDEE-3EF701F819E9_zpse18iecyv.jpg

When the magnet is on it works great so I needed to make something more permanent and it did not have to be a magnet just any ferrous object so I drilled and tapped the cv cup for an m6 bolt then machined the length right down to 5mm and screwed it in with loctite

so it's not coming out again and should be a permanent fix for the speedo

Yeah prop would be good, when I had my loom made I didn't yet have an idea how I was going to do the speedo input so the man just dropped the connect out the front right section so I didn't want to run the wire further under the car,

The plan is to get the speed reading from the ecu but I haven't got a gps on that yet but will use one next year

My new tail pipes turned up today

Hopefully will look good when done

The rear underside of the car is absolutely black from the exhaust and you can clearly see the rear wheels are blacker than the front from the exhausts so something has to be done and I don't want permanent fixed tail pipes as it will badly affect clearance when loading unloading onto a truck or trailer so v-bands is the quick and easy option

More pics later in the month on them once I've finished them

Thanks
Marc

Bonnet looks better without all that structure anyway.
Wouldn't mind doing that to mine, but is it really flimsy now?

Amazing to read through all this thread, fantastic car!

It's flimsy but il have to wait to see how it is driving flat out!

I think it will be ok to be fair, but when you lift the bonnet you need to lift in the middle or you will probably bend it lol

Underway with the aerocatches now

Looking good Marc. Can't you just use that wheel speed sensor for the Ecu and output that to the dash ?

No mate as it is wired directly into the chassis harness to the dash2 as it is all 1 loom so would mean another 3 wire sub loom into the ecu which would start to become messy but

The only thing I would do is if I have another engine loom made I would have it added to that and wired directly into ecu that way

No mate,

Noise wise I don't like Bedford as it's always touch and go I think my car is 98 static,

Going to leave the car laid up till about April other than a hub dyno session maybe to finish boost set up

I like the idea of the fluorescent on the catches to draw attention to them open...they almost need a micro switch to flash an led on the dash.

Fluorescent vinyl will do I think mate,

I am also going to fit naca ducts to the bonnet this time around I think,

The previous cut outs looked good but did not actually aid much air flow I don't think so I will try 2 naca ducts to aid airflow around the turbo area and the inlet area,

Not sure how it will look but it's very much function over form
