Hi Ian

Tomorrow will see it all in paint, and the box properly sealed back together ready to go back in, then Monday I will machine a new cylinder mount for the Tilton

The only things that would not be done would be the attessa pump set up and potentially the exhaust but I was not planning on running the strip at pod anyway so if they are not done and the car drives then Il take it,

Worst case I have everything untouched to put the cossie box back in, which will take me a max of 3 hours, that's the handy thing about not touching the old props/clutch/grearbox mount or exhaust parts

What would the skyline gearbox be running with no pressure set up to the center diff?

Awesome work, you got me thinking as well about making modified mounts and parts to be able to put the standard 4x4 cosworth box back in if ever i had to. Makes sense really.

In theory I shouldn't ever have to but until I'm 100% happy with the skyline conversion I didn't want to chop anything up and the car not be useable, if a track day comes up and theres issues with the skyline box or I don't have the attessa pump in etc I can put the Cossie stuff back in

Once the attessa and controller etc are in I shouldn't need to swap back

It would be nice but as we both have Cosworth gearbox tunnels I'm sorry but you will have to remove one of the gearbox mounting points from the tunnel to make the skyline gearbox fit . Mark did not have this problem as his gearbox tunnel is a one off so his mounts are in a diforent place to start with

I have cut out the floor to fit the GTR box and while i did 2 off the standard 4X4 cosworth mounting holes were cut out. So i will need to modify the gearbox mount as you said to mount the GTR box. I will hopefully use parts of the cosworth and GTR gearbox mountings.
Then when i put the standard 4X4 cosworth box in i will have to make a different custom gearbox mount using the same holes hopefully, and make it out of another cosworth and GTR mountings. something like this one.

It will be ok as the skyline runs 2wd until the gearbox is told to bring it into 4x4 so no problem

Sealed and stone chipped the underside, just needs a few hours to dry out before a bit of paint but paint coverage is not essential here as will be completely covered by heat shielding

Not sure how well it will all match but the floor areas get grubby and battered quickly so in a few months you probably won't even notice

What's with all the silver tape?
Is it to blank off holes?
And did you buy pre cut circles?
I used the silver tape to cover holes inside my car but haven't seen anyone else do it? Is this a proper way of doing it?

Silver tape is used to cover all holes you don't want dirt and water etc getting in also it is great to go over heat proofing with as if you have decent stuff it sticks likes glue and stops edges of heat proofing from peeling and lifting

Used by most wrc teams

Ended up going over all welds with Tiger Seal as the brushable seam sealer was horrid, this is not the best or prettiest finish but it completely seals everything and is over paintable, and is how I done the entire underside

Maybe 1 day il get the car re painted and then properly dress all the welds nicely and re seal but with everything still in the car I was worried about the grinding sparks and everything

Colour match is clearly visible but when all floor plates are re cut and back in you won't notice that much

Done the clutch set up today

Checked the measurements and worked out I needed a spacer of 10.5mm so machined up a new 1 as I did not want to modify my Cossie mt75 one

Then once that was done I had to figure out how to secure the spacer so I utilised the original clutch mount bracket, cut up a bit of billet, drilled it and welded it to the spacer

All worked out perfect and after some careful clamping and welding it sits perfectly over the nose piece with zero tilt as far as I can see

Anyway let the pics show the story

Where is the best place to get the silver tape? I wouldn't mind doing my tunnel before I put the box back in.

The biggest problem i had was getting my multiplate clutch lined up onto the skyline splines, they are very short compared to the MT75.

Do yours sit in the right place?

Do yours sit in the right place?
I am using a skyline paddle behind helix cover and I have been massively struggling with the line up.

Have you not had to swap the plates to skyline splines? I thought they were different to the Cossie ones?

Clutch alignment was no issue at all, mines a triple plate, just made an alignment spline, and yes of course the splines had to be changed to Datsun ones 😉

Eh, your previous post says the biggest problem was getting the splines aligned?

I actually mis read who the poster was and thought MK had forgotten to swap to Datsun splines.
