Cheers lads

Not much left for Mot just small things really but we got our first house in April and I have hardly any spare cash anymore so it's taking a lot langoer than I'd like,

As for the starter I think I was just unlucky with 1 which had a gear failure, so switched back to standard for now to be safe,

My lathe is just a small hobby 7x14 mini lathe from Amadeal, it's great to have and I couldn't be without 1 now but would love a bigger 1 in the future

Mark - how do you pre heat? Heat gun? Acetylene or Hotplate/oven

When I come across another cheap housing il do it again for more practise as I am determined to learn and become good at this,

Do you use 4047 filler for your tanks and items that need good sealing/leak proofing

Just finished a little bit if wiring,

When Simon at Sileck done the car loom I had no reverse switch or brake light switch in place so he left me the connectors for them,

I bought some raychem heatshrink from inter web and made up the sub looms,

For the brake switch I was gonna to make up a crappy push switch but
Thought better of it as it's not very neat so added a pressure banjo switch to the handbrake and sleeved and plugged it with a tyco Amp connector

Then I had to make up a small length of loom for the gearbox reverse switch so I cut off the ford plug and used Amp connectors again and job done

My car passed the mot with no light for the handbrake, i used the pressure switch on the pedal box for the brake lights.

does your handbrake have any way of locking it on?
as that was something that i had to do for the mot on mine, so i made a strip of carbon that simply bolted to the handbrake lever, and then you flicked it up horizontally so it pushed against the dash once the handbrake was applied.

by my handbrake was right next to the dash lol

Going to start on the airbox next payday so thought I'd quickly sort the intake tube and hose as I already had parts for that laying around,

Had to cut 2 pieces to create a slight downward angle to clear the bonnet

I need to remember to make smaller tac's so they don't stand out so much once fully welded,

In place on the turbo

The airbox will be very similar to what Andrew did with the focus, except I will sit the air filter back slightly and air dam in front of it to force all air into the filter, it's tight for space so will be very compact with a small long panel filter

The forced cold air will more than make up for the small filter and be 100 times better than an open filter sucking in hot air

More as and when I have the alloy sheet to work with but il do a cardboard mock up over the weekend to show you

After having some chats with a friend Steve about the benefits of a completely sealed forced air intake over a large cone filter just sat in the bay sucking up hot air I decided this was the only way to go and it makes sense

If your air filter it just in the bay soaking up hot air then before your cooler even gets to see the air it's a lot hotter than it could be so when it comes out the cooler before the bt it will be cooled as best it can, seperate the filter from everything except fresh cool air that is forced through the filter into the turbo then it will be that much colder before you start and when it comes out the cooler into the inlet then again it will be that much colder and better for the engine

So making it up as I went along I have done all the CAD work................CARDBOARD AIDED DESIGN

So from start to finish

Had already pre planned for this over a year ago when I had my custom cooler made so there is 3 m6 bosses welded to the cooler top and bottom for fixing points

buy yourself some flat carbon sheet and carbon angle and do it in that. Will be just over half the weight of alloy.

Paul

I haven't forgot mate just not had to strip the front down yet so been avoiding it lol

Warren - that's what I'd like it out of but with ally I can make it myself in a day if I use carbon sheet etc it will have to be taped bonded or stuck etc which I don't want to do plus there is a lot of different angles so not simple

Nice job with the airbox i'm currently in the process of doing the same with my 3 Door at moment I have a K&N cone filter tucked up behind the grill you can just make it out in this photo, but a sealed ram airbox is much better.

One question I've got about the airbox.

Is it going to be completely sealed? What I'm getting at is, if it's fully sealed apart from the opening, then at lets say 100mph the box will start to act as resistance to the air rushing in as the engine can only swallow so much of it?

Shoot me down if I'm talking shit

Is there going to be any holes at the bottom to allow water out?
If the intake is in direct flow from the grill, any moisture / water will go through the filter and into the engine won't it?
Would you not need a deflector plate of some sort

There will be drain holes just before the filter then the filter should stop the rest of the water

To be fair I may leave the drain holes as speaking to a rally friend the water from just rain will cause no issues, only issues would be large puddles or water splashes

I imagine it would be less water than water injection and that is a benefit.

BUT it would be good to know that it could flow enough air...I bet Dave Walker at emerald might know the answer, it could almost do with a flap with light spring loading to open or just a tube to another air filter so it could drag more?

I certainly do not know the answers
