Mk6 JWRC fiesta cosworth
#2051
Had a couple of hours to tinker on the car today before more family festivity's kick off
While i had the lathe on the bench i wanted to turn down my E8 socket as it would not fit in the recess in my other bells and as i had the bells anodized already and am not sure if i am keeping them yet i didn't want to machine the bell
One turned down female E8 socket
Which now fits the bell
I also have been searching for some 3/4" half nylocs for the front wrc tca pins but have had no luck so the only option was to machine about 8mm off the ones Mark supplied me with.
You probably don't need to do this on most set ups but when the steering is on full lock the tapered spacer hit the edge of the tca very slightly so i had some small stainless spacers made so this doesn't happen but by doing that it meant the thread of the tca pin now did not reach the nyloc part of the nut!
Original full size nut that no longer reached the nyloc
So put them in the lather and took a bit off them
You can see the small spacers i added so the tapered spacer does not foul the edge of the tca, it's now much better and the thread fully engages the nyloc section
Re fitted the front brake lines from the pedal box to the wings with the rubber grommets
Maybe gonna put a heat shield of some kind over this one
And lastly Steve who uses this board supplied me with some alloy cap head bolts to fix my front wings and lights on with so the stainless ones were removed and replaced with the light weight alloy ones
All for now, time for a beer and some food

Thanks Guys
Im just using some cheap ones at the moment as i damaged my last decent hss one a while back, i keep meaning to get some more quality ones but never do
The better tools make a big difference though so i should get some more
They are HEL brake lines that Andrew Gallcher made up for me in the carbon look sheath

I would like it done for the coming years ford fair if all goes well but that is only if work etc stays as it is, so it's done when it's done is all i can really say lol
As for the Aeroquip steering rack adapters, they take me so long to make on my little hobby lathe it isn't really worth my while unless i charge £100 the pair which i know is a lot for what they look like
Thanks

Well after the saga with the 295mm 4 pot kit not fitting, and finding out i needed more along the lines of a 330mm discs for the caliper to clear i have been looking into what way to go for the rear brakes and getting prices.
After a best quote of £470 delivered for 2 330mm x 28mm discs which i was going to go for i noticed a set of used but very good 328mm x 28mm discs come up for sale on pistonheads yesterday, so gave the man a call
Met him today and went to see if they were any good to me
Turns out he doesn't know how to use a tape measure and they are actually 325mm x 28mm but they have the correct pcd of 203.2 so i bought them anyway hoping they would give enough clearance of the steering arm for a caliper to fit
And they did
Here's the discs fitted to my spare bells which i am not sure if im gonna be using yet
And just to check for clearance i put the caliper on from the kit i have for sale, to be honest they would probably work ok but up close you can see that the 325mm discs is wrong for the radius of the caliper and i don't want mismatched brakes so new cp5040 calipers will be ordered
But anyway here is a few dummy fitting pics
Gonna be a bit fiddly making up a mock bracket to have copied and i may end up using leading calipers so they will be mounted on the other side of the shock to shown above, purely for the fact the brake line will be able to be made shorter which is something id prefer
So order the new calipers to suit 325mm x 28mm discs, new pads and then it's time to make mock up brackets then have them cnc machined once i am happy with them
Thanks

I used a small Brembo handbrake caliper on each of the hubs. The same they use on Ferraris, Astons etc. They weren't cheap, but I've heard horror stories abut the compbrake and Wilwood jobs being crap, and if these are good enough to hold a much heavier £100k+ car, it's good enough for me. Using an RS2000 handbrake cable.
