Well I've been up to see the cars progress at Andrews and sort out where I want my seat and pedals and steering wheel etc and I am chuffed to bits with it

the work is fantastic and done to such a high standard, went over a few things to be done on top like a fuel tank and bulkhead fuel line fittings and brake fittings etc which is easier to do while the car is there, can't wait to get it back even though I am in no rush so take your time guys lol,

big thanks to Andrew and Scott the fabricator who tailor fitted everything for me today lol, and cheers for the beers and games of pool mate, I would never leave that workshop if it was mine

thanks again,

Got some more pics I took while I was there that il upload later,

one problem is though............

I have been stuck in Gretna services on the A74 broken down with no tools on me for 3 hours now and I'm still sat here waiting for the RAC!!!!!!!

Think the thermostat on my escort stuck shut as the water hose before it was blown up like a balloon and the car won't rev over 3k and is totally gutless and won't even do 60mph!!!!!!! Fucking thing and I'm still 340 miles away from home so it's gonna be a long day I think

thank god I bought recovery on friday that takes you anywhere you like in the uk if it can't be fixed. Best £70 I ever spent

pics soon.....

na i didnt, only had 2 little bottles of stella so didnt have my eye in you know

Anyway the RAC turned up 2 and a half hours after calling them and after a bit of head scratching it turns out it was the cat that caused the breakdown
it had starting knocking saterday so i tried to order a new one but they couldnt sort one for me till monday so i thought its only knocking so doesnt matter if i do it tuesday when i get back but oh no.....not this time

it had broken up inside the box and got jammed inside the exhaust and got so hot it formed a nice bung shape and stopped pretty much all exhaust gasses getting out hence the pressurised cooling system and the complete loss of power, so the fella unbolted the exhaust and broke up all the cat stuff inside and got it all out so the box was empty, put it back together and bobs your uncle its good as new and i was on my way after a 3-4hour hold up.

on the plus side though the car has just past its mot last monday and the new cat i was going to sort in the morning is about £100, which i now wont bother with till before the next mot as it doesnt knock anymore as there is fuck all in it
the years breakdown cover only cost me £70 so apart from time wasted its saved me a few quid for now so not all bad

cant find the camera lead to upload pics and im too tired to look so will post them when i get up and can be arsed to find it lol

nite all

here is all the random pics i took yesterday while i was there and a few things we went over about whats still to be done etc,

the work is fantastic and its just mental seeing it up close

sorted out my seat position and pedal box position which is very tight for space as ideally peddles need to go forward a knats c*ck but they cant, but i think its just about going to be ok,

luckily the gear lever was ok where the box sat so they did not have to mod the cradle to come back further so that saved a job and also took all the measurement for the steering wheel position, although its a lot harder than you think just holding a wheel and deciding if its where you want it etc, as it all seems wrong being a lot further back in the car than a standard item but its all noted down so the guys can carry on with the build :cool!:

Whilst we were there Andrew suggested a few things to do while he has the car and a few of them are a must as i have encountered problems on my last build that this will resolve,

1st - have male-male -6 through bulkhead connectors welded in rather than on a nut as they tend to come loose very quickly and once everything is in be a pain to get to and tighten especially if your working alone, so there are 2 going in the bulkhead and 2 more going in behind the seat as this time round im having the fuel pumps and filters mounted under the rear of the car,
the brake lines from pedal box to all four corners will also be welded in place on each corner with male-male connectors again to stop loose spinning fittings when removing and re fitting.

2nd - Andrew is making me a fuel tank that will be at the very back of the car in the boot area between boot panel and cage diff pick ups. the tank will be about 200mm high and roughly in the shape of the boot space available giving a calculated capacity of roughly 50ltrs so more than big enough,
The tank will then have a sump through the boot floor with the outlets and fuel return in aeroquip fittings and the pumps mounted next to it all nice and neat.

3rd - The decision to go chassis mounted has been scrapped! after getting to see it all close up its really just going to be a hinderance as Andrew did first say, it will make it a lot harder to remove the engine, re fit the engine and work in the engine bay, along with slightly more excessive vibration through the shell due to the mountings so we are going to use some new vibra technics mounts and keep it all as standard there,

I am sure there's things i forgot to mention but thats enough writing for now, if you want to know anything particular just let me know, here is the pics i took while i was there,

Looking very good, what Rack/Coluum you using? ive also had issues with foot room for my pedals on the 106, Martoon has had to go with floor mounted pedal box and move seat back slightly, im also hoping to use Corsa c eps, got the coluum and controler just needs mounting to suit.

small update,

I have decided i want to run front and rear grp a bladed anti roll bars, which was proving to be difficult as apart from brand new kits for approx £1600 the pair i haven't had any luck finding any, but i emailed a fella on www,rallycarsforsale.net as he was selling some other grp a parts and asked if he had the roll bars still and he has so i am waiting for them to be removed from the car and then hopefully i will have them on their way up to Andrew late next week, they may need a blast and new zinc plating etc i imagine but there a shed load cheaper than new
