Got me self a Turb to play with!
Evening All,
After much umming and arrring I have finally taken the plunge and done it.
I have been mulling over the idea of buying a bonus or a popular and building an RS replica. Wednesday night as if by magic a Turbo appeared in the local paper.
Sweaty palmed I gave the number a call, wayne the guy on the other end of the phone sounded genuine, "yeah its a tidy car, its had some work done on the engine and I have a bit of history with it too!"
I arranged to go and have a look the following day after work. I turned p to find a very clean, tidy, straight, ding & dent free car. The car has had 2 owners in the last 12 years and is currently running just over 200BHP according to the rolling road reports in the A4 binder FULL of history!!
The folder contains all the old tax discs, all the old MOTs, full service history, every receipt for every nut bolt and jubilee clip bought for the car, the original audio guide and dealer locations etc.
It seems Wayne did not really want to let the car go and was trying to undersell it. Due to him and his wife having a baby the car is no longer practical and he has bought himself a Mondeo.
To look at the car it is completely standard apart from clear indicators, smoked rears, and a quad healamp conversion all of which I plan to put back to standard.
It is Mercury grey and apart from a tiny spot of rust on the divers door is immaculate. It has also come with 6 months tax and ticket and he has thrown in the car cover.
The engine! I went out for a test drive! Wow! 1 mile down the road I knew I wanted it!
Spec list found in the folder
Bottom end lightened and balanced
Bored to 1800cc
Uprated pistons and rings
Hybrid turbo
Power clutch
Waste gate
Spatter shells
Bailey breather tank
Polished & ported head
Uprated Cams
Stainless valves with bronze seats
new injectors
The list totals just under 3 grand in parts.
It also had new tyres fitted 2 weeks ago, 6 months tax & MOT!!
The car has even been wax oiled and not used in the wet for 2 years!!
Not surpisingly after negotiating a price the car is now sat proudly on my drive! I love it can't believe it took me so long to do it!
It's not perfect it does have a couple of faults,
Judder under braking,
A noise as you release the clutch when going into 2nd
Bad wind noise from the nearside door
The lights as i have already mentioned.
How much?? 1900 quid! Does that seem like a bargain?
Tim

Taken out the quad lights yesterday and put the originals back in.
Before
After:
Thanks to Stuart Collins who has given me the mounting clips to help me finish it off. Just bumper inserts needed now!
Thoughts?

Ordered my front spots too today from the local Ford dealer.

After
I am in two minds wheteher to remove the Well Lane badge as it is part of the cars history and I have numerous invoices for work done from there.

Ł35 for the bumper mouldings? I am sure you used to be able to buy rolls like that for about a tenner from the local chav shops when I was a kid!
Is it a specific size on the Ford? I have got 2 old bumpers I tried removing the inserts from but they are very brittle and just snapped.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Thats a bit of a bargain! the car looks a lot better now with the original lights back on, as for the well lane badge, it might look better if you could get a new one if poss to go with the new badges on the boot.
